Kotie was born and raised in South Africa and she completed her Medical Degree at The University of Pretoria in 1991.
Her Intern Year was spent at the HF Verwoerd Hospital in Pretoria and after that she worked as a Medical Officer in the South African National Defence Force for several years where she rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
During this time she obtained several additional qualifications such as a Certificate in Industrial Audiometry, a Primary Aviation Medicine certificate, a Safe to Grow (Child Protection) course and an Advanced Trauma and Life Support course.
From 2004 to 2006 Kotie worked in the UK as a GP - during this time she obtained the JCPTGP certificate of Equivalent Experience that enabled her to work independently as a GP locum in the UK.
Upon their family's return to South Africa in January 2007 she took on the role of being one of the Coordinating Doctors for International SOS - this involved coordinating care of expatriates that had to return to their countyr of origin due to unforseen medical emergencies.
Kotie is fluent in English and Afrikaans, and have a working knowledge of Northern-Sotho. She is married and have two children.
