Naga belt and dao holder
consists of a wooden scabbard with bone cross piece and side tassels.
Attached to the scabbard on each side are bark belt halves which are trimmed with a cane binding.
The buckle consists of a cane loop and a bone toggle.
The side of the belt is decorated with bone pieces on which a face has been incised;
a sooty matt patina which in shiny in parts.
Material: wood, bark, cane, bone, and hair; height: 280mm; diameter: 285mm.
Provenance:
Time and place of collection from the field is not known.
Private Nepalese collection.
The dao blades are traditional made by the Kalyo-Kengyu Naga and traded with surrounding tribes.
