A betel nut container from Timor
is in the form of a lidded box in front of an attached tapered cylindrical container with figure head stopper.
The box has interlocking geometric designs engraved on three sides and the container has two lizards carved in relief.
The stopper has a long face with a flared tapered nose, eyes set under a ridged-brow, high-set "C"-shaped ears and
a cap-crown on top of the head; a shiny patina in wear areas.
Material: wood, traces of white pigments and lime.
Provenance:
Time and place of collection from the field is unknown.
Acquired from bazaar in Khoa San Road, Bangkok in 1993.
