Big weekend this week for Jazz Guitars @ Big Mouth.
We’ve had a couple of great weekends at Big Mouth with new numbers and sounds. We finally did Spain (Concierto De Aranjuez for you classical snobs) which is such a fun number to do. Anyone who’s missed it, feel free to come up and request it. If Jon’s and my fingers are still attached to our hands we’ll see if we can pull it off again.
This Saturday we will be celebrating 2 birthdays. My sister, Angie, is having her belated 30th birthday party at Big Mouth and Yuta Hirose’s birthday is actually on that day.
This will be fun, instead of embarrassing total strangers in the audience (like that 16 year old girl we made do a breakdance to Happy Birthday sung out of tune by yours truly… well not really, I just sang Happy Birthday out of tune while she blushed a lot), we get to embarrass people we know and love. I’m all warm and fuzzy with anticipation (maniacal grin).
As some of you may know, Yuta is another one of my talented students (they come to me like that) who is a gypsy jazz demon (as opposed to a gypsy jazz saint… which is a completely different fictitious type of guitar player). Yuta has been joining Jon and myself front and centre at Big Mouth for the last 2 weeks adding a great new dynamic to the duo, which I suppose is a trio now.
It’s his birthday and all he wants to do is play guitar... couldn’t you just cuddle up and eat him? In a non-gay way of course... Not sure how that statement was non-gay actually... I’ll reassert my masculinity in the next post.
To help celebrate Yuta’s birthday, his older brother Yoshi, will be joining us on swing violin. Despite Jon’s fear of gypsy jazz (ie, whenever we play it Yuta makes us look bad), Jon has agreed to allow me to pack more gypsy jazz charts in the bag… just for Yuta. So for you Gypsy jazz fans out there, this is the week to come see us!
Remember, we’re on every Saturday till further notice. Not going anywhere. Be right there at 2pm, just waiting for you to show up. Guitars in our laps, like last week, and the week before...
