PUNCTUALITY AND CANCELLATION

All efforts are made by the doctor to keep to appointment times but unexpected emergencies can arise and lead to delays. If for any reason you are not able to attend your appointment on time please contact the secretarial staff to reschedule your appointment.

A Letter of referral from your General Practitioner/Specialist is required to provide medical details and enable Medicare claims. Old X-rays and medical reports can provide additional information and avoid duplications of tests.

Medications and prescriptions or a detailed list should be brougt to the appointment to avoid prescribing errors. Several medications are not available on standard PBS prescriptions and require an “Authority to Prescribe” from Canberra and can then be obtained from your local chemist. Other highly restricted medications can only be dispensed by the hospital pharmacy. Your doctor should advise you if you require non-standard PBS medications. Remember to retain all you pharmaceutical receipts as you may qualify for the “safety net” or receive reimbursement from your health fund.

Write a list of important questions Many patients think of questions prior to consultations and remember them on the way home. To avoid this you may wish to keep a list of questions to ask at your next visit.

Partners/family members
are encouraged to attend consultations as they frequently have additional questions and in many cases provide ongoing support for patients. For female patients who feel uncomfortable being examined alone by a male doctor, a female staff member can be present during the examination.
