Wee Care is the making of beautiful hand made garments for the stillborn and premature babies in hospitals. It is to provide love and support to these parents at a most distressing time.
Our Guild, through its members, creates and distributes these tiny, beautiful garments to 18 metropolitan hospitals in the Sydney area. Each year about 300 gowns are donated to these hospitals. Our affiliated groups in Newcastle, Muswellbrook and Illawarra also support their local hospitals with these tiny gowns.
These bishop style gowns are made to a special pattern (found on this website) which have been endorsed and created in consultation with medical staff of neonatal intensive care nurseries and parents. We also take into consideration cultural diversity and needs.
These gowns are not commercially available so rely on volunteers to create this tiny gowns of love.
With the help of members and their friends we also supply knitted caps, booties, knickers and cuddle rugs to make up a set to send with the gown. Any left over wool or material is always sought after and easily gets put to good use for this worthy cause.
