-CHRISTMAS- -2011-

A Very Merry Christmas to ALL, and may you have a prosperous New Year.

Here's Wishing everyone a Munster of a 2012 !!

Hope to see you soon.

COMING UP -

New Years Eve the Band is back at McCrae Yacht Club for what has become a traditional Celebration in a most pleasant beach-side environment. Get ready to Party into the New Year !!

Australia Day (26th Jan) Munster will be back at the Sorrento RSL for the 3rd year in a row. This one too is becoming a "tradition", and the day certainly has a traditional Aussie family backyard barbecue type atmosphere. The Show runs from around lunch-time, with (free) hamburgers for hungry attendees, and it all takes place in the Venues beer-garden.
Special guests are always a feature, with Billy Miller appearing in 2009, and a whole list in 2010: Lisa Bade, Tony Byrne, Paul Norton & Wendy Stapleton (amongst others). This year's guest is Pete Miller.

Sat 11 Feb sees the Band back at the Rye RSL to welcome back "normality" after what will no doubt be another mayhem filled January for the Mornington Peninsula.

-RECENT HAPPENINGS-

- Flying Red Dogs; Recordings...

Applestick Records Archivist Mick Drew now has digitalised all those Flying Red Dogs Recordings that didn't appear on any of the Band's commercial releases (see column opposite)...
Good quality studio versions now exist of the entire FRD song-list, and depending on demand; an "Anthology" Compilation is now a possibility.
For those interested; the previously unavailable songs (all from 1992 to 1995) are: Red Dog Hill, Line 'em Up At The Bar, Eat The Peach, Black Bart, The Shame, Funky Chicken, Robot, Brand New Start, and Lost. Also some Covers - Albatross, Swamp, Surf Medley, I Want You, I'll Make You Happy and Love Me Two Times.

Nightmare City - On The Web...

A couple of years ago it was announced on this site that Munster's 1993 recording of Nightmare City had become available for download via Amazon.com. Unfortunately downloads from that site were not available outside the U.S.A, and so from the Band's point of view the main interest was in the novelty of having a twenty year old forgotten recording suddenly appear as currently available on the world-wide web.
It thus became Munster's only recording from pre-2003 that was available in digital format, and had only become so via a sequence of events of which the Band had been totally unaware!
... But that's another story.

More recently "WE7" have also offered parts of the Def Records catalogue for listening/sharing, and this time it can be done from right here in Oz!!!

Below is a link to access the Site...
PLAY - NIGHTMARE CITY

*Note: This version of Nightmare City originally appeared on the Def Metal Compilation released in late 1993, which reached #3 in the Australian Metal charts.
The song was written by Dave Roberts and Greg Sullivan, and the original version of it was used as a demo for Def Records approval, as well as (later) appearing on The Transition Album (1995).
However; by the time the actual Def Records recording was made; Dave was concentrating on The Flying Red Dogs, and Rob Broatch was the Band's guitarist. Though almost 20 years later; all other current Munster's play on this version.
The (other) version featuring Robo on guitar; will only surface digitally if "we" (ie Applestick Records) ever get around to re-mastering and re-releasing The Transition Album...
...Considering that for years "we've" been threatening to do this with the (even older) Labor Day Album; I wouldn't be holding my breath!

OTHER STUFF-

The Jack & Bob Show... DEFUNCT !

Some of those that are well aquainted with Munster's history would be aware of the existence of the unplugged two member version of the Band that has (spasmodically) operated under the name of "The Jack and Bob Show".
At one time Jack and Bob were very active, and were even seen as the low-keyed "dinner music and wedding specialist" version of Munster Terrace.
However; that was a long time ago, and although the duo hasn't been active for a number of years; the Act was never declared officially defunct. Now the time has come to make that announcement...
Some years back it had been decided that whilst "J & B" bookings were to be discouraged due to the full Band version of Munster being much preferred by all members; it was believed that the concept should still be kept alive just in case any "special need occassion" should arise.
Over recent years a number of requests for the duo have been knocked back. However; this has mainly been because the requests have come from venues looking for a "cheaper" version of Munster Terrace, and because none have been seen as the sort of Special Occassion for which the concept's existence had been allowed to continue.
Having said that; recently a request came through for a very special booking indeed: The wedding of one of Munster's "Honourary Members" - And so; a serious rethink of the situation was required.
In the end a decision was made that the time for the Jack and Bob Show has passed, and that an announcement should be made to this affect.
And so - It's official...
The "Jack and Bob" Show is no more !!
Both Jack and Bob would therefore like to thank all those who have shown them support over the years.

(Still) Calling RUSSELL BIGMORE...

Munster Terrace have completely lost touch with Honourary Member Russell Bigmore.
If anyone knows of his whereabouts; please make contact via the e-mail facility on the "Bookings" page.
Thank You. Any help will be much appreciated.

GENERAL APPLESTICK STUFF

INTRO BY "APPLE"

Applestick Records was formed around the end of 1998 by myself and John E Lee. .....................................
The label was born primarily so as to have a totally independent avenue for the release of "Back 2,3,4": A collection of John E Lee's original tracks that he'd recorded all over the world with some of the most famous muso's on the planet.
Mid '99 John died and things went astray. That's when I decided (in tribute to John) to keep "Applestick" going, and to let it be used by Bands that would prefer not to deal with corporate record "Labels".. be they mainstream or alternative.
Right across the spectrum Labels impose or imply a "label". "Applestick" should be a co-operative rather than corporate.
And so - It now exists as a vehicle for reality based D.I.Y minded Bands/Artistes to release their material.
The Label you have when you don't want to be "labelled".

*UPDATE - February 2008 - By Mick Drew..

Mick Drew here, Art Director at Applestick Records. Since the tragic passing of our founder, guru, and friend Dave, "Applestick" has not functioned as such. However; as the dust settles we feel the Lable should be kept alive as a legacy to Dave and the music he so passionately believed in.
We are now operating at a "cottage industry level", although all "Applestick Titles" are available via mail-order...
