Youth Advisory Council formed for the local Claremont area, by the Town of Claremont, and the Office of Youth Affairs.
Youth Advisory Councils have been established throughout the State, in conjunction with local government authorities. The Councils are made up of young people who have a genuine interest in their communities.
Youth Advisory Councils have been designed to enable young people to advise both the State Government and the Claremont Council about issues facing young people and ways to address those issues.
The Youth Advisory Council specifically caters for people between the ages of 12 and 25, although interested individuals outside this age group are invited to attend.
The ideas which young people come up with will influence both Government and Council decisions on policy, programmes, and services. Through Youth Advisory Councils, young people have a direct line to the Minister for Youth, the Cabinet, and the Claremont Council.
Youth Advisory Councils have a strong role to play in helping to decide funding priorities for youth facilities and services, and in encouraging greater participation by young people in a range of community initiatives.
By Participating in the Claremont Youth Advisory Council, young people will also be developing skills they can use throughout their lives, such as decision making, working in a team, developing creative ideas, and finding out how Governments' operate.
The Town of Claremont and the Office of Youth Affairs, help to administer Youth Advisory Councils, but young people run the meetings themselves.
Claremont Youth Advisory Council meets once a fortnight at the Administration Office, 308 Stirling Highway Claremont, in the early evening. For further information please contact the Community Services Assistant at the Town of Claremont on (08) 9285 4300 or email us at
