Parents & Children

A Vatican II document tells us:

As it is the parents who have given life to their children, on them lies the gravest obligation of educating their family. They must therefore be recognised as being primarily and principally responsible for their education. The role of parents in education is of such importance that it is almost impossible to provide an adequate substitution. It is therefore the duty of parents to create a family atmosphere inspired by love and devotion to God and their fellow men which will promote an integrated personal and social education of their children.

- (Vatican II Declaration on Christian Education No. 3)

In their efforts to help their children grow towards maturity in faith, parents aim:

To create a secure and loving atmosphere in their homes.

To model God’s love by talking through issues, by being ready to forgive each other, and by trying to repair failing relationships.

To pray as a family, talking about God, Jesus, and the Church.

To bring the joys, sorrows and needs of the family to the Sunday Mass, linking their family with the Eucharistic Family ... the parish!

Parents are helped to foster this life of faith by the parish community, and in a special way by the parish school, and catechists in our state schools. The parish family also helps parents to develop their children’s faith in other ways, including the Family Mass.

On the 4th Sunday of each month we have a special Children’s Liturgy which aims to give our little ones a special sense of belonging to the wider parish.
