Liturgical Life

Liturgy

Liturgy is the ‘work of the people’. If everyone does just a little then the load is shared and, more importantly, all members of the parish acknowledge the "full conscious and active participation by all the faithful" inculcated by the Second Vatican Council (see Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy # 14).

There are many areas under the heading of Liturgy. All combine to make the celebration of the Eucharist and other seasonal celebrations very meaningful experiences involving the whole congregation.

Acolytes, Special Ministers and Altar Servers

Acolytes prepare and serve at the altar on Sundays, weekdays and special occasions. In the absence of the priest, they conduct Communion Services. They may take Communion to the sick and elderly.

A growing number of men and women are rostered for all Sunday Masses and on weekdays as Special Ministers of the Eucharist to assist the Priest. Communion under both kinds is normally offered at all Masses in the parish. Ministers of Communion may also take Communion to the sick/housebound and conduct Communion Services in the absence of a Priest.

Altar Servers serve on Sundays, at School Liturgies, and on special feasts. Serving commences after First Communion.

Lectors

Readings are clearly and meaningfully presented by a group of Lectors for each of the Sunday and weekday Masses and celebrations throughout the year. Workshops run periodically to develop reading skills.

Music

Church music is provided by organists and other musicians. They are rostered for Sunday Masses, along with Cantors and the Parish Choir. Plans are in hand for a Children’s Choir and a group of young musicians. There is always room for more!

Greeters/Hospitality

These parishioners extend a welcome to all who attend Sunday Masses, especially new parishioners and visitors. Cups of tea, coffee, and cordial for the children are provided from time to time.

Altar Society and Altar Linen

Weekly preparation of the altar, sacristy and church, including the laundering of the church linen is handled by these groups. This is a vital ministry which truly enhances the quality of the liturgy.

Children’s Liturgy

This is held on the fourth Sunday of each month. People who are willing to help with the preparation of this liturgy and who have some innovative ideas about how to best enhance this special time for our children are most welcome to join in.

Your Talents Are Needed!

There is always room for one more in the many parish Ministries and services.

Each year Commitment Sunday is held, and it is at this time that many people elect to become involved with one or more of the many ministries and services.

Should you wish to know more about any of the ministries, services, or groups mentioned in this booklet, please contact the parish office. Call on 9727 3759 during office hours.
