Preparing an annual report for the library facilitates…

  • Reflection on the educational and management outcomes; administrative practices.
  • Evaluation of the current position of the library in meeting the immediate future targets of the school.
  • Communication of the achievements of the current year & promotion of future developments.
  • Accountability for the most valuable resource in the school & its learning programs – the library information centre.

  • Record this on a master sheet
  • Perhaps an Annual Summary?

Print to hard copy:-

  • Items previously missing, now recovered
  • Missing Report ~ retain the final copy after all attempts have been made to locate missing items.
  • Write-Off Report (detailed form)
  • Stocktake statement

Challenged Materials

  • A Review Committee be set up to handle any such issues
Issues Arising from Challenged Materials

Procedure for Handling Challenged Materials

  • The complainant will be asked to make an appointment with the Principal & the Principal will be notified of the complaint.
    • The complainant is responsible for organising the appointment.
  • During the conference:
    • Selection procedures will be outlined.
    • Principal will invite the complainant to file a written objection on the form Request for Reconsideration of School Materials.
  • Principal will inform appropriate school personnel.
    • Challenged materials will remain in circulation during the process.
  • A complainant who does not complete and return the form, receives no further consideration.
  • Upon receipt of the completed form, the Principal will request a review committee to review the materials within 2 weeks.
  • The review committee is appointed by the Principal and will include the T-L, a member of the Executive and a parent.
  • The review committee will:-
    • Read, view or listen to material in its entirety.
    • Check general acceptance of material through recommended referencing sources.
    • Determine extent to which this material supports educational program.
    • Meet as a group & complete checklist & recommendation Reconsideration of Challenged Materials.
    • Challenged materials will be retained, withdrawn or restricted, as indicated by the Principal’s decision.
    • Written notification of the decision must be given to the complainant within 4 weeks of receipt of the written objection.
  • Request for Reconsideration of Materials ~ Standardised form
    • Must be submitted in writing, be signed & dated.
    • Give full details (title/author/publisher) of challenged title
    • Give full details of complainant’s (name/ address/phone/representing self or group (details)
    • Must be submitted to Principal
  • Reconsideration of Materials. There will be different forms to address the specific issues in....
    • Non-Fiction
    • Fiction & other literary forms
