Did you know that the human skeleton is made up of 206 bones, 650 muscles, the skin is made up of millions of tiny cells, the skull is in fact 29 separate bones fused together, there are 300,000,000 air sacs in the lungs, we have 5 - 6 litres of blood, the heart pumps blood all the way around the body in just 45 seconds, the hardest material in the body is the enamel on teeth, the eye has two types of light sensitive cells, rods detect black and white, cones detect colour, our intestines can measure 9 metres, our kidneys filter waste from the blood system many times as much as 2000 litres in on e day and each half of the brain controls the opposite side of the body.My column will appear every term, tune in next time to find out more information about our fantastic system called, the human body - the one we all tend to neglect from time to time. See how each bone works, how each muscle reacts, how the nervous system works with each part of the body and many other fascinating facts.
