They had come to Tsurphu on pilgrimage seeking the blessing of the then 8 year old reincarnation of the Karmapa. We climbed the pilgrim circuit on the hill overlooking the monastery, where it started to snow. Everybody crawled through an arch of rocks. This is said to cleanse misdeeds which might end in a lowly reincarnation.
