Pentecostal and Charismatic Issues
It wasn't long after my conversion in 1982, before I discovered that the Pentecostal and Charismatic movements were heading up an un-Biblical path. I spent just over sixteen years in Pentecostalism and grew increasingly alarmed with each passing year as the movement further departed from sound doctrine and practices. Attempts to discuss any issues with leaders throughout the years were met with resistance and reproof which resulted in the muting of any discontent. With the outbreak of Rodney Howard-Browne's ungodly Toronto Blessing and its promotion within my own AOG fellowship, I soon found that any attempt to sound an alarm to my brothers and sisters in Christ, or to try and approach leadership with my concerns, was considered equal to opposing God Himself, and the corresponding wrath and judgement were duly meted out.
I began researching into the history of the movement, as well as the doctrinal beliefs and the lives of some of the most influential and prominent figures, past and present, and was absolutely dismayed at what I discovered. This page is devoted to my discoveries.
My hope and prayer is that those within the movement, who are genuine about their relationship with the Lord, might take the time to conduct their own investigations into what has been presented here, and if my presentation is found to be accurate, then seek the Lord as to what they should, or should not, do.
For myself, I believe that it is plain from Scripture what actions should be taken by one of God's children when he discovers that he is in the midst of gross doctrinal error and apostasy. "Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing." (2 Cor. 6:17).
What do you need? Start creating it. Start speaking it into being. Say, "you, cheque book, you've never been so prosperous since I owned you ... you're just crammed full of money." (Claim Your Miracles tape No. 186 side 2)

Roberts Liardon has done an unwitting service for the entire church of the 20th Century in his reconstruction of the rise of Pentecostalism in his 12-volume video series, "God’s Generals," and the book by the same title. Beginning in the mid 1800s with an eccentric preacher by the name of John Alexander Dowie, he follows the succession through many colorful Pentecostal healers ending in the 1960s with Kathryn Kuhlman.

"When I was a teenager the Lord spoke to me concerning the lives of His great 'generals,'" explains Liardon, "to know why they succeeded and if they failed, why they failed. So I spent most of my teenage years… talking to people who knew famous preachers." Now his collection of testimonies, along with vintage film clips, help fill in some missing pieces for those of us attempting to see the big picture of how today’s various heretical movements achieved acceptability.
