Dear Pastor Chris,
On Sunday, 29th March, in the morning service, a prophecy was brought forth by
Chris Miles to the effect that there are people in our congregation who are not
flowing with the river of revival that God is supposedly bringing through our
church and that God is going to deal with those individuals by putting them to
death. His prophecy went somewhat as follows:
"The Spirit of the Lord is saying that the river is beginning to flow in this church. The river of God is flowing right through this Church. It is flowing powerfully but there are people in this church that are trying to stop the river from flowing. They are going against the flow of the river of God. The Lord is saying that they are swimming against the flow and they are trying to stop people swimming with the flow of God. And God is saying that these people that are swimming against the river of God, He will bring death to these people. You are on dangerous ground by swimming against my river says the Lord. You are on dangerous ground and the Lord would say that you who are against the flow of my river, you will die says the Lord. I will bring death to you who are swimming against my river says the Lord....etc., etc., etc."
This is not verbatim, as the prophecy was not recorded, but, as you were present and heard the prophecy yourself, as did the rest of the congregation, you would have to agree that this is a fair and honest representation of what Chris brought forth.
A disturbing and most dangerous precedent has been set by the uttering of this prophecy, in the name of the almighty God and a line with the most horrendous of consequences has been crossed. I cannot stress enough the urgency and seriousness with which this situation should be dealt with by yourself and the rest of the leadership of our church. For a member of the leadership to issue death threats upon members of the congregation in the name of the Lord is beyond imagination.
Chris, who is a deacon in the church and who has close liaison with yourself and the rest of the board members, would know full well that myself, and my wife, Colleen, are not in agreeance with what has been termed 'the new move of God' that has been sweeping Christendom since its inception at Toronto in 1994, and that you have attempted to introduce to our congregation since coming to Cairns Christian Centre. That being the case, Chris Miles has prophesied that God, in no uncertain terms, is going to kill myself, my wife, Colleen, and some other members of Cairns Christian Centre while being aware of who he was directing the prophecy toward. I praise God, the Great Comforter, Who knows all things before they occur, that Colleen was not in attendance to hear such a shocking curse pronounced upon her life on Sunday morning, however it is no less distressing for her to have to hear it from me, second hand. For your information, Colleen spent Sunday morning with her brother, comforting him in the recent loss of his wife.
If you agree that this prophecy, uttered by Chris, is from the Lord then the leadership of our church is proclaiming that anyone who speaks against the Toronto and Pensacola outpourings is facing imminent death. I urgently need to know if this is now the official position of Cairns Christian Centre?
If this is not the position of the Pastors, Deacons and board members of Cairns Christian Centre then this prophecy needs to be publicly and clearly refuted from the pulpit at the soonest possible opportunity. There needs to be no beating about the bush. This is not something that can be swept under the rug and handled behind closed doors. The prophecy was publicly given, and if leadership adopt a position that it was not from the Lord, it needs to be publicly refuted - for a number of reasons.
My position is that Chris uttered the prophecy, knowing full well who he was speaking to, in either frustration or anger. His motive was to bring fear upon the people he sees as a hindrance to the free flow of the 'new move of God' through our church. This is a typical response from the leadership of the 'new move of God' toward anyone who would dare to question the validity of their theology or point out glaringly obvious error. I have always been, and will continue to be, opposed to the teaching of the leadership of the Toronto and Pensacola churches.
I believe that Chris was not speaking from the Lord but from the soul, his own emotions. I also believe that he does not understand fully the serious implications of speaking forth as the very mouth of God. I have not accepted what Chris said as coming from God and I am absolutely steadfast in my assurance and position with God, so I am not about to fold up in fear. Also, I am not about to attack Chris or his family as he has done in this prophecy to myself and others. I see Chris as a friend and a brother in Christ who just needs to prayerfully take stock of himself and his actions.
The reasons for my emphasis upon public refutation is obvious. Firstly, the world is becoming a dangerous enough place for people who desire to live righteously in Christ. We don't need our own brothers and sisters inciting religiously unbalanced people in our midst to carry out the 'work of God' on His behalf. This may sound far fetched, in Cairns, in this present day but the Word of God assures us that, one day, this will take place in the apostate church. History is full of such things and God assures us that the future is also. Secondly, timid people in our congregation, whom the Lord exhorts that we are to support and encourage are intimidated by such outlandish prognostications. Those people need to know that there is nothing to fear.
With all due respect to your position as Pastor of our church, I strongly emphasise again that nothing short of an urgent and public refutation will prevent the dangerous and serious repercussions that can issue forth from this most unfortunate incident. I look forward to your sensible and mature response.
While on the subject of my unpopular stand against the introduction of the teachings of the Toronto and Pensacola churches, I would like you to be aware of the gross error and absolute foolishness that is currently being promoted by these people - people who, I might add, the leadership of our church, including yourself, endorsed when they had their visit to Atherton last year. God, in His Word, clearly warns us that if we receive a lie instead of His Truth, as laid out for our instruction in Scripture, then He Himself will give us over to a strong delusion and we will fall into apostasy. We will be deluded and not know it. I would contend that the leadership of Toronto and Pensacola are in a 'strong delusion' and any who would endorse their ministry are in grave danger of following their condition. I fear for the spiritual safety of my brothers and sisters in Christ, but I am not about to pronounce death upon any who would disagree with my beliefs. A great dam that bursts forth and floods the land with such destructive force starts as a small drip which is not checked.
Toward the end of last year the Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship hosted a conference. They are always having conferences, spreading their theology, unchecked, far and wide. However, this conference had a special theme. It was named the "Have Another Drink - Never A Sober Moment" conference. The term "Have Another Drink" raises few eyebrows now. We have been conditioned by the likes of Rodney and Benny telling us to get drunk at every possible opportunity. However, how does "Never A Sober Moment" sit with your spirit? Is there just a small twinge indicating that something is wrong?
There should be! That is a non-Scriptural name. This is contrary to God's clear and solemn command which admonishes us to be sober, alert and vigilant, particularly in the last days, for our own spiritual safety.
As we proceed to read the first couple of paragraphs of the documentation that is proudly displayed on their Internet site that relates to us what happened at the "Have Another Drink - Never A Sober Moment" conference, it is obvious that total acceptance and uncontrolled abandonment to a spirit of drunkenness is the sign to these deluded people that God is pouring out His Holy Spirit afresh and blessing their 43rd month in 'renewal'.
Chris Miles' prophecy that God will bring death upon the likes of myself and Colleen for resisting the river that he believes is from God will not hold water when examined under the light of Scripture. The river he is promoting is the Toronto river. The river that flows from God is pure and crystal clear and comes directly from His Throne. The river promoted by Toronto is nothing but filth in the eyes of God. It is contaminated with error and has turned our Holy God into a 'good old drinking buddy' who just longs to join our drunken company. Nothing could be further from the nature and character of the merciful and holy God whom we serve. We are no longer able to discern the difference between the holy and the profane, the thing that brought death to the sons of Aaron, because of their drunken familiarity.
Enclosed please find copies of the goings on at the Toronto church in the name of our precious Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Yours in Christ's service.
Hughie Seaborn.
PS As I have always stated, and continue to state and encourage others,
our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the
authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual
forces of evil in the heavenly realms. I am not attacking you, or the leadership
of our church, personally. However, I am urgently petitioning you to defuse this
dangerous situation that has arisen by the prophecy of Chris Miles.
