Acne Treatment with Acid Agents

Salicyclic Acid - Topical Acne Treatment

Salicyclic acid is another common agent found in skin washes (run of the mill examples include Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash and SALac).

Salicyclic acid agent has comedolytic activity and, beyond drying, is generally well tolerated.

Many cosmetic skin care products marketed for wrinkling (under the banner of "anti-aging" or "anti-wrinkle") now contain small to modest amounts of salicylic acid.

Salicylic acid may be particularly useful in acne cases where there are large numbers of comedones present.

Salicylic acid can cause burning, peeling, and irritation. It is best tolerated by those with normal to oily skin.
