Moonshadow Belgian Shepherds, Australia

Highlights of 2008

2008 was a "different" year for Moonshadow. We showed less than in 2007 and 2006, in large part because of the really big good news of our two litters of puppies!

To start with Show news, however, we were very pleased when both Magic and Paco began the year well. Magic won another Best Junior Dog in the Working Dog Group at the Kangaroo Valley show on 16 February, 2008, and Best Junior Dog as well as Best Working Dog in Show at the Sofala Show on 24 February, 2008.

Paco's Year

Paco began the year by winning another First Place in the Veteran's Sweepstakes at the Rylstone Kandos Show on 23 February. However, the big news was that with his Best of Breed win at the St George and District Kennel Club show on 31 May, 2008, he completed the 1,000 Challenge Points needed to qualify for the award of Australian Grand Champion!  We are so proud of our boy, who added this hard-to-get title to his English Championship Title. Paco then won Best Veteran in Show, and also the Dog Challenge one day and the Reserve Dog Challenge the other day at the annual BSD Club of NSW Specialty Show held 2-3 August under Kris Malinowski and Janet Andrews, Breed Specialist Judges from the UK. And finally,  Paco was awarded Best Veteran (10+ years) in Show and Best Sire in Show at the Illawara and South Eastern BSDC Specialty Show in October 2008 under Mme M F Varlet from France!

Beautiful New Puppies

Paco also again became a proud father. He was mated to Bonny (Belabelg Angels Gift) in April, and on 20 June, 2008, Bonny gave birth to 9 lovely Tervueren puppies - 6 girls and 3 boys. One of these puppies, Dream (Moonshadow Baxies Dream) has stayed with us here at Moonshadow and begun her show career.

We were able to travel overseas in August, and to attend the French Belgian Shepherd Specialty Show. We were delighted when Roxie's sister, Chilli, won BEST IN SHOW, at the world's largest (740 Belgians entered) and most prestigious Belgian Shepherd Dog Show.  Congratulations to Chilli and her proud owner, breeder and handler Babs Robinson, and Tommy Goode.

In September, we had another litter, this time of 7 beautiful Groenendael puppies - 3 boys and 4 girls.  The parents were "Roxie" (Xanova Rose Noir [Imp UK]) and "Tzar" (Ch Mirribandi Perfect Tzar). As mentioned above, Roxie's sister Chilli had just won the French Specialty Show, and earlier in the year had won the Dutch Specialty and the Northern British Specialty shows. Tzar in turn won the Belgian Shepherd Dog Club of NSW Specialty Show in August 2008 and in July 2008 had won the Belgian Shepherd Dog Club of Queensland Specialty Show. Again, one of these puppies, Dancer (Moonshadow Dancing Bear) has joined us here at Moonshadow for a career in the show ring.

So all in all, an eventful year for us here at Moonshadow. In particular, we gained two beautiful new puppy members of the Moonshadow team, and met lots of wonderful dog-loving people who joined our extended Moonshadow family by taking our pups!
