Our American friends in the Johnson Society of the Central Region havealso been having fun. Secretary Thomas Kaminski reports in the Society'sOctober newsletter on a rehearsed reading by Society members of Johnson'splay Irene. Some of the headlines which the performance generated werereported by Dr Kaminski as: "Irene Trimphant in West End (of Lafayette)":The (Kokomo) Times "Profs Stuff Scoffs; Irene Hoosier Queen":Indiana Variety "Traitorous Greek Apostate Slain by Sultan":Istanbul Fundamentalist. Wrote Dr Kaminski: "The crowning moment ofthis great theatrical event was the presentation of the 'David' to CatherineParke for her touching performance as Irene. "The 'David' is, of course,an engraving of David Garrick presented for 'the best performance of astaged reading of Irene', an award presented only once a century!"
