Seminar papers to

be published

Papers delivered at Johnson Society seminars since the first in 1993, and also papers given at the series of CAE Johnson seminars which led to the formation of the JSA, are at last being made available to members.

Editing II students at Holmesglen College of TAFE, under the supervision of lecturer Anne Calvert in consultation with JSA Editor Paul Tankard, are carrying out the task as a class project.

The papers are being put on computer disk and will be produced in hard copy to a uniform format. They will be published separately and sold individually at a modest cost.

In the meantime however, two booklets, each containing three selected papers, will be on sale at the next seminar on July 12, so members can get a preliminary look at the way the individual papers will be presented.

Anne Calvert says the project is providing the Holmesglen Editing students with useful experience in dealing with material supplied in different forms - on disk, hard copy, and a blurred photocopy - and putting it into an attractive, dignified format.

"They are very enthusiastic," Anne told The Southern Johnsonian. "They expected dry academic pieces, but are delighted in the way wit mingles with erudition. A couple have had the pleasure of reading paper by a past lecturer."

The collection will provide a valuable record of topics covered over several years. Members who have delivered papers and have not yet given a copy to Paul, are urged to do so as soon as possible.

We will keep members informed as papers become available, and further details will be given at the seminar.
