ANSTO - Radiopharmaceuticals Division
I'm currently employed as a Document Control Officer.
I suppose this is a fancy way of saying I'm a Technical Writer for the Division's QA system.
That would be telling!
Seriously though, it's document preparation stuff, and a whole lot of clerical duties. Some days I wonder why I have an honours degree in Applied Chemistry!
Back to topAs you can probaly guess from the Interests and Articles Index, I'm an active medieval enthusiast. So here's a little bit of what I do.
I'm currently playing with SCA. For those of you interested, I'm living in Rowany, which is part of the Kingdom of Lochac.
Within the SCA, I'm the current Lord Guildmaster for the Royal Guild of Defence.
I generally get referred to as Táriq ibn Jelal ibn Ziyadatallah al-Naysábúrí at events. Mainly because this is the name I have registered with the SCA's College of Heralds, but also because it seems funny to call a guy in Saracen clothes Richard.
My chief interests at the moment are 10th Century Byzantium and Persia, their clothes, food, lifestyle etc. Because of this I have projects underway in clothing, archery, armour and I also dabble in period recipes. These interests are pursued in both the groups I am a member of.
I also have become very interested in Renaissance Fencing, which I'm doing with the Royal Guild of Defence. Being in Sydney, I've been lucky to have access to regular training with Peter Linich, Maestro di Scherma. Training with an accredited fencing master comes highly recommended, as Peter has the technical background to demonstrate and explain the stuff in the manuals in a few minutes, that would take years of work to develop without a professional teacher. Unfortunately, you still have to put the hours of training in yourself to get it right. :-) If you make it Sydney, you can come and join us at training. We welcome all the poke test dummies we can get. :-) Follow Zebee's directions to get there.
We actually run our training sessions as a formal fencing school, known as the Rowany Guild School. We have between 4-6 instructors available each night, so getting a lesson is usually not a problem. Maestro Peter runs our beginners program, as well as the instructor training program. Zebee (Guildmaster Silfren) runs the intermediate to advanced program, and I'm responsible for the overall running of the school, as well as the research and sidesword program.
