RAYSHELL is a 'shell' program with the basic function of preparing input data for, and reading output data from program 'SAA STAN' in a similar manner to the program 'STANSHELL' as provided with AS/NZS1158.2 - 2005, but with additional features.
The program also has curve spacing chart and a Spacing table mode.
The program can be set for either Australia or New Zealand and will cause SAASTAN to carry out calculations as required by AS/NZS 1158.2 - 2005 for the selected country.
RAYSHELL provides the following features not available in STANSHELL
Calculates Upward Waste Light Ratio.
Compares calculated parameters with the limits contained in AS/NZS 1158 - 2005 and shows the 'pass' or 'fail' of parameters on screen.
Detects and calculates for asymmetry in road geometry and/or photometric data.
Prints reports.
Allows SAA STAN input and output files to be viewed.
Finds the maximum spacing if desired.
The curve spacing reduction chart allows instant determination of reduced spacing for curve radii 100 - 1000 Metres and Spacings 5 - 200 Metres.
The chart can be printed.
The Spacing Table mode allows maximum spacings to be determined for up to eight carriageway widths and four mounting heights per table. Two tables can be calculated in the same run.
Maximum spacings are determined for all traffic and for all requirements of AS/NZS 1158 - 2005 for straight roads.
Calculations can be interrupted and resumed at some later time without losing spacings already calculated.
One or two tables can be sent to a printer.
All data in the program can be saved at any time. Results, if any, are saved.
Photometric and road surface files are also saved.
All input data including photometric files and road surface files are thoroughly checked and details of any errors shown in an 'Error window'.
Checking ensures that the data are valid values and that they are compatible.
The program SAA STAN (File: SAASTAN.EXE) is required to carry out lighting parameter calculations.
SAASTAN is copyright to Standards Australia and is supplied with AS/NZS 1158.2 - 2005.
It is NOT supplied with RAYSHELL.
SAASTAN.EXE is installed on a computer when the setup program for 'STANSHELL' on the CD supplied with AS/NS 1158 - 2005 is run.
RAYSHELL will copy SAASTAN.EXE from the default directory for STANSHELL if it exists.
If RAYSHELL is unable to find SAASTAN.EXE, a message will appear advising that SAASTAN.EXE needs to be copied to the RAYSHELL directory.
If SAASTAN.EXE is not on the computer, it can be copied from the AS/NZS 1158 CD 'Files' directory.

However, the program will usually operate under 'Windows Vista' but the Help
file may not be accessible.
This is because Microsoft no longer supports the previous Windows Help file
format
and does not permit third party software developers to distribute a program
which enables the use of the Help files.
Microsoft makes the required program available to users via:
