FIONA allows a proposed luminaire to be evaluated before use in the design of an application.
FIONA is designed specifically to allow any type of luminaire to be evaluated for Luminous Flux and Intensity to any direction in space and for any luminaire orientation.
FIONA can also calculated Zone Flux and Intensity in accordance with TM-15-07 with the additional facility of being able to orient the luminaire.
The programs function is to determine Luminous Flux and Intensity to a user specified zone in space from a single luminaire with orientation applied.
The requirements of AS1158 - 2005 for the control of upward flux, airport regulations on the control of upward Intensity and of ordinances issued by various authorities for the control of light in the vicinity of observatories and for the promotion of a 'dark sky' generally were used as a basis for development of this program.
Program management is by means of 'windows' running in Windows 95 or later versions* using a 'Mouse' to control most functions.
Calculation methods are those generally accepted by the lighting profession in Australia. Full details of accuracy, rounding, display resolution etc are given in 'Help'.
The Intensity pattern may be displayed using colour to indicate values relative to user set limits
Printed reports may be customised.
* See Computer System Requirements for more details
The main features of the program are shown under 'Features' below.
For a full coverage of all aspects of the program, it is recommended that the program be downloaded, installed and evaluated.
On-line 'Help' covers all aspects of the program.
Windows environment for ease of project management.
Mouse controlled to minimise keystrokes.
Calculates:
1) Maximum Intensity in a specified zone.
2) Luminous Flux in a specified zone.
3) Peak Intensity in a luminaire distribution.
4) Angles of Peak Intensity occurrence in a luminaire distribution.
5) Emitted Flux in a luminaire distribution.
6) Light Output Ratios in a luminaire distribution.
7) Beam Dimensions to two percentages of Peak Intensity in a luminaire distribution.
8) Beam Flux to two percentages of Peak Intensity in a luminaire distribution.
9) Upward Waste Light Ratio (per AS1158 - 2005).
Polar Intensity Distribution curves can be plotted on screen or to a printer
Colour display of luminaire showing orientation.
Colour display showing luminaire axes.
Colour display of current zone.
Colour shaded display of Intensity in the current zone.
Intensity displayed as 'points' or 'isolines'.
Colour shading using 'limits' or 'no limits'.
Colour display viewed three dimensionally.
Luminaire Aiming by angle ie. Rotation, Tilt, Spin. Range: -360 to +360 degrees
Photometric data read directly from file in IESNA or CIE27 format (automatically detected). No library management or special file directories needed.
IESNA formats 1986, 1991, 1995, 2001 & 2002 correctly handled.
TM-15-07 Mode with any luminaire orientation
The program is optimised to use the capabilities and other features of Windows 95 to XP.
VISTA Users
This program is intended for use with Microsoft Windows operating
systems 'Windows 95' to 'Windows XP'.
RAYFORGE Services does not offer support for the program
operating under 'Vista'.
However, the program will usually operate under 'Windows Vista' but the Help
file may not be accessible.
This is because Microsoft no longer supports the previous Windows Help file
format
and does not permit third party software developers to distribute a program
which enables the use of the Help files.
Microsoft makes the required program available to users via:
http://www.support.microsoft.com/kb/KB917607
Computer Hardware Required:
1) IBM or compatible PC running Windows 95 or later versions.
2) Mouse or equivalent pointing device operating under Windows.
3) VGA (or better), colour card and monitor.
4) Hard disk: Approximately 6Mb required for program and associated files.
5) Printer: (if reports required)
Colour graphics printer to print colour graphics of calculation grids.
Colour or Black and White graphics printer to print layout graphic and Polar Curves.
(Colour if current parameter to be printed on layout).
Non graphic Black and White printer is sufficient for text reports.
6) Memory: Dependent on size of projects and on other Windows applications running at the same time. 64Mb recommended, 32Mb minimum.
Available now from this page, Free (for the purposes of evaluation). (Click here for Download)
Will operate in demonstration mode (fully functional except that only sample luminaire photometric files may be used).
Note: The demonstration mode has an expiry date built in. The demonstration mode cannot be used after this date although it can still be made fully functional by entering a registered user name and serial number. (No re-installation necessary).
To purchase; send the purchase price in Australian dollars by bank cheque, draft or money order payable on an Australian bank together with a preferred user name to:

All the necessary files are contained in a single 'zip' folder named FIsetup.zip. This file needs to be downloaded to your computer and
the contents extracted to a temporary directory.
When extracted, the setup program can be run using the instructions in the README.TXT file
.
Instructions step by step:
1) Make a new directory on your hard disk (eg. C:\Fitemp).
2) Click on the Start Download button. (Below these instructions)
3) When the message box appears, choose 'Save to Disk'.
4) When the drive/directory boxes appear, select your new directory (eg. C:/Fitemp) as the destination.
5) A single directory named FIsetup.zip should start downloading to this directory.
6) Extract files from FIsetup.zip into the temporary directory.
7) Use Windows, <Start> <Browse> <Run> to find and run file: 'SETUP.exe' within the temporary directory.
8) After installation, "FIONA' should appear in Windows Programs list.
9) After the setup program has been successfully run, the temporary directory and all the files in it may be deleted.
