HAMM

Welcome to the HAMM web page. No, a new version of HAMM is not available. Sorry! BUT there is a new HFD file available to open FreeSpace VP files!!! See below for more info!

No more!

HAMM will no longer be updated :-( I'm working on Packafied instead (use the link to the left).

But good news! Packafied does almost all HAMM does and lots more! Packafied allows editing of Descent HOGs, as well as Descent 3 HOGs, MVLs, WADs, etc. In fact, it allows editing of any HFD described file format. That's editing, which means adding, deleting, extracting and replacing entries!

Head over to the Packafied Page and check it out!

What is HAMM?

HAMM is a utility that allows you to edit Descent and Descent II HOG files. You can add, delete, rename, extract and modify files that HOG files contain. You can edit briefings and create exit sequences for Descent 1 levels with ease.

With HAMM 97, you can extract files from other file types, like MVL files (where the movies for Descent II are stored in), Descent II sound files, which can be played from within HAMM. With the new HFD files, you can make HAMM read almost any container file from any game by writing an HFD file. I've already done this for some games already! However, you can only read these files, not make changes. Descent HOG files are the only files that can be modified by HAMM at the moment.

What's New?

I've updated HAMM, of course! Here are the new features:

Stuff that's on its way

OK, I'll have to be honest with you. I can't see that HAMM will be updated again. It's gotten to the stage that I'm comfortable with. That doesn't of course mean I'll stop working. I'm now working on a new program, not DCheck! You'll just have to wait till its finished to see what it is (and judging by the time it takes for me to get something done, it might be quite a wait :-) )

If someone does however report a fairly serious bug, then I will update HAMM to fix it, so keep sending in bug reports!!!

Bugs

HAMM 97 is free software! It might contain a few bugs, so remember to back up any HOG files you create before you modify them! I don't want to put you off or anything, but it's better to be safe than sorry! If you find any bugs in HAMM, please tell me about them!!! Send me e-mail at prunge@onaustralia.com.au if you encounter any bugs or problems with HAMM 97. Suggestions for new features or improvements for old features are most welcome!

A new HFD File

I've made an HFD file so that HAMM can now open and extract from VP files! These files are used in Descent Freespace. Now you can extract and view all the sounds and pictures in Freespace!!! Download it from the files section below!

The Files

HAMM 97

File: Length: Description:
hamm9722.zip 1.72 M The full version of HAMM 97 v 2.2. Get this if you don't have a previous version of HAMM 97 or HAMM 95 at the moment. Requires Windows 95, and should work on NT 4.0 (anyone tested it?).
hm9722ug.zip 143 K The upgrade version of HAMM 97 v 2.2. Get this if you have a previous version of HAMM 97 or HAMM 95. This file only contains the EXE file, and not any run-time libraries that are required.
vphfd.zip 668 bytes! The HFD file to open VP files from Descent Freespace! Read the readme file included for info on setting up!

HAMM 1.12

File: Length: Description:
hamm112b.zip 447 K The old version of HAMM, version 1.12. Get this if you have Windows 3.1 which can't run HAMM 97. It still lets you do the basics - add, extract, delete, edit TXB files, etc. but doesn't have the new features.
hammhow2.zip 115 K This Windows 3.1 help file will help you create briefings and other neat effects for your levels with HAMM. It was written for use with HAMM 1.12, but it's also useful for HAMM 97!
