DCheck

Whoa! What's going on? I just updated my web page twice in under 30 days!

What is DCheck?

DCheck is a Descent II mission checker. It will check a mission and tell you about levels, music, POG files, VHAMs, HXMs, etc.

This means that you can find out stuff like whether or not a mission supports flag or not, whether there are exits to each level, the number of new robots or new weapons in the mission, and how many new polygon models there are. This basically means that it checks almost every little detail in a mission!

DCheck comes in very useful when it comes to multiplayer games. Before you start playing a flag game in a new level, you can run DCheck on it to make sure it actually supports capture the flag play. It's really annoying when you try to look for the flag for over an hour when the level doesn't support flag play!

Of course, DCheck can save any report to a text file for viewing later.

System Requirements

There are now a few versions of DCheck available. There is the DOS version, which is simple, but small. Then there are the two Windows versions. There is the 16-bit version and the 32-bit version. The 32-bit version will not run on Windows 3.x with Win32s.

Version History

DCheck started out as a testing tool. I used it to compare results with the new version of HAMM 97. Over time, it grew and grew and I finally decided to release it, as it was proving to be useful to check levels quickly.

version 1.0 Initial Release.
version 1.1 Fixed Minimise bug
Fixed Custom Boss Robot bug
Added support for HXMs and VHAMs in level report
Added configuration file usage
Added support for end briefings and credits files

Of course, if you want a good quality level checker, take a look at Descent Manager, written by Heiko Herrmann. Descent Manager has a much better reporting capability with more thorough reports.

Credits

DCheck was written by myself, Peter Runge. E-mail me at prunge@onautralia.com.au if you have problems with the software. Don't forget, DCheck is free software, so please don't expect super technical support for it! (I will try my hardest to help, so don't worry!)

A huge thank you to Heiko Herrmann and his specs on all the different Descent file types! Without them, DCheck would never have existed!

The official mirror site of this DCheck page is on www.descent2.com at http://www.descent2.com/tools/dcheck. Take a look at it!

And, of course, thanks to Parallax Software, who created Descent and Descent II in the first place! Without them, both DCheck and HAMM would have never existed.

Files

DCheck is totally free software! While I try my hardest to make it as bug-free as possible, there still might be bugs lurking... If you find one, please e-mail me so I can fix it! Thanks to everyone that has reported bugs so far!
