Computer skills checklist

Check your ability to use a computer for the Internet:

  • I know how to access and logoff the Internet.

  • I use appropriate netiquette when using the Internet.

  • I know how to find and use different search engines.

  • I can use the Internet for research assignments.

  • I know how to use Ctrl+F and F3 to do key word searches of the browser window and the bookmarks menu.

  • I collect URLs from different sources such as newspapers and magazines.

  • I know how to add to and edit Bookmarks or Favourites.

  • I organise my Internet bookmarks into subject folders.

  • I swap bookmarks with my friends.

  • I know how to access and navigate to URLs from disks and CD ROMs.

  • I keep an e-mail address book.

  • I know how to receive and send e-mail.

  • I know how to send attachments with my e-mail.

  • I know that my Browser’s Help pages give information about setting up e-mail and other options such as default settings.

  • I know how to copy and paste text from a Web-page to another application.

  • I know how to save text and images from Web-pages to my computer desk-top.

  • I know how to set up a data base and develop spread sheets.

  • I save backups of my files.

  • I know how to use a word processing application.
