Pip McManus: Public Art

Smith Street Mall, Darwin

In 1997/8, while living in Darwin for a year, I co-ordinated the firing and installation of ceramic murals by various local artists in Darwin's Smith Street Mall. These photographs were taken in 2010, just before the murals were removed when the mall was being revamped yet again. Being ceramic, the murals stood up pretty well to the rigours of a tropical climate. Reading down the page, the works depicted here were painted by Bryan Bulley, Jackie Fleet, Roque Lee, Annie Franklin and Prince of Wales. The work to the left is my own.
