zz2sheds.jpg (20533 bytes)   The Good Year Blimp "Europa" moored to a portable mast at Cardington. Cardington is in Bedfordshire, about an hour North of London.

In the background, the two huge sheds built during  WW I (1914-18)  
   The left shed,  is where the British governments "R.101" was constructed . The shed was originally 700 ft long, 180 ft wide and 110 ft high.

     Because the R.101 had insufficient lift, it had to be extended in length.As a result, the shed had to lengthened to almost 800 ft.   It contains about 7,000 tons of steel.
     

 

The "Europa" was constructed in USA, then assembled and inflated in the R.101s' old shed.
