The Good Year Blimp "Europa" moored
to a portable mast at Cardington. Cardington is in Bedfordshire, about
an hour North of London. In the background, the two huge sheds built during WW I (1914-18) The left shed, is where the British governments "R.101" was constructed . The shed was originally 700 ft long, 180 ft wide and 110 ft high. Because the R.101 had insufficient lift, it had to be extended in length. As a result, the shed had to lengthened to almost 800 ft. It contains about 7,000 tons of steel. |
