Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? - Auditions
Wollongong Workshop Theatre

Summary:
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is set on the campus of a university. It opens with the main characters, George and Martha coming home from a party at her father's house. The two of them clearly care deeply for each other, but events have turned their marriage into a nasty battle between two disenchanted, cynical enemies.

CHARACTER LIST:

George - is in his 40’s member of the history department and is married to Martha.
Martha - is in her 50’s daughter of the president of the University.
Nick - He is 28-30 years old, good-looking, and clean-cut. He is married to Honey.
Honey - She is 25-28 years old, and is not the brightest bulb of the bunch

Martha
Martha is a braying, heavy-drinking embarrassment, who seduces new faculty member Nick just to anger George and has no qualms about airing her dirty laundry in front of guests. Martha's decision to share the story of their imaginary son with the guests breaks the unspoken rules of the emotionally cruel games she plays with George and leads to chaos.

George
Younger than Martha and an acknowledged failure. George is in the history department, though much to Martha's chagrin, he is not the head of the history department. As a teenage boy he may have accidentally shot his mother and accidentally killed his father in a car crash. Or this may be just a fiction he has created.

Nick
Nick is thirty years old and blond, a young genius who received his Master's degree at twenty. He grew up with his wife Honey, whom he knew since childhood.

Honey
Nick's twenty-six-year-old wife. She's frail and "slim-hipped." Honey is rich, left money by her late evangelist father. She drowns her sorrows in brandy, getting silly and childlike.

SET & COSTUMES
The play will be set in the lounge room of George & Martha home virtually run in real time from 2pm until nearly dawn. The Set will be a modern interpretation of this space as opposed to an actual representation of a room. It is my view to have the look of the piece 'contemporary' and no 1960's. Character costuming will be current 21st century as opposed to the 1960's original.

AUDITION DATES: February:
Wednesday 10th from 7.30pm
Saturday 13th from 2.00pm
At Wollongong Workshop Theatre 192, Gipps Rd Gwynneville

The Last Five Years - Auditions
So Popera

The Audition date is Sunday 31st Jan, and auditions can be booked by emailing 'auditions@sopopera.com.au'. Anyone wanting a time will be contacted with an available spot on that day.

The Auditions will be held at the Phoenix Theatre.

---oooOOOooo---

The play tells the story of New York couple, Jamie, a writer, and Cathy, an aspiring actress, who fall in love and then part over a five-year period.

What sets this musical apart from all the other relationship stories is that while Jamie's journey starts at the beginning of the relationship and moves forward for five years, Cathy's begins at the end of the relationship and moves backwards to the time of their first date.

The actors only meet midway for the wedding scene, where they perform the beautiful song The Next Ten Minutes.

Merrigong To Be A 'Companion Card' Affiliate In 2010

Merrigong Theatre Company will open up the world of theatre to more people than ever before in 2010. People with a profound disability, who require attendant care support, will be able to present their Companion Card to Merrigong's box office when purchasing a ticket to any show, to receive a second ticket for their companion at no charge.

Merrigong endeavours to make theatre-going accessible to everyone. There is wheelchair access to both theatres and wheelchair-accessible bathroom facilities. Patrons with a hearing impairment can ask for a set of headphones when attending performances in the IMB Theatre, which has a wireless FM system that transmits sound to the headphones via radio frequency. The Gordon Theatre has a hearing loop, allowing those with hearing aids to hear sound more clearly, and headphones are also available. Theatre Captioning is provided for all Merrigong Season shows at the Saturday matinee. The captioning system uses two full colour plasma screens either side of the theatre stage that display live captions.

Patrons with mobility or access requirements just need to advise the box office when booking their tickets to ensure they can be suitably accommodated. Accessible ticket bookings can be made by visiting or phoning the box office on 4226 3366.

The benefits of being a Companion Card holder have been life-changing according to many who have them. They include enjoying improved social networks and increased feelings of social inclusion, confidence and dignity.

For more information on how to obtain a Companion Card, visit www.companioncard.org.au or phone 1800 893 044 during business hours.
