Mary Card's Crochet Lace: Flower Designs
Edited and published by Barbara Ballantyne
ISBN 978-0-9580235-5-9
A4 size, full colour card cover, 72 pages.
This book, and its partner book Bird Designs, are a joy. The Flower Designs book contains over 30 of Mary Card's flet or crochet picture patterns featuring flowers, with all graphs redrawn by Barbara, and checked by experienced crocheters. All patterns are shown as graphs, but where necessary (for example, some edgings), written instructions are given.
The books include some basic instructions on filet crochet. Patterns range from a group of small floral doilies, through larger mats, cushion covers, edges, through to a beautiful piece called a Garden Cloth, which has a circular linen cloth centre, but is square in overall shape, and is over 110 cm across.
Floral subjects include pansies, poppies, irises, daffodils, wisteria, poinsettias, waratahs, and a Gippsland vine and flannel flower design.

Mary Card's Crochet Lace: Bird Designs
Edited and published by Barbara Ballantyne
ISBN 978-0-0580245-4-2
A4, full colour card cover, 56 pages.
The companion publication to Flower Designs, this book contains more than 30 filet or picture crochet designs featuring birds, including peacocks (my favourite!), blue wrens, swans, lovebirds, lyrebirds, cockatoos and magpies.
A feature is the Australian Bedspread, dating back to 1913, and incorporating lyrebirds, kookaburras, swans and cockatoos and also kangaroos, possums and emus. All motifs have individual filet charts which could be used for any other design.
As with the Flower Design book, all graphs are beautifully clear, having been redrawn by Barbara.
