Re: Capturing ships in X-T... Posted By: Demos Date: 16 Dec 2000, 09:27 In Response To: Capturing ships in X-T... (Brok) 1. get behind a ship and target it. 2. fire untill its shields are almost gone (<5%). Use The I key to see the shield percentage. I always shoot the shields so that every blast reduces them to 0. Instead of looking at the percentage, you can use the visual shield indicator (red bar near the crosshair). Shoot untill 0,1 or 2 indicators remain). Watch carefully how many damage each single blast does (before firing the next one), then just time your next shot. 3. Keep this going for a minute. 4. Suddenly (if lucky) the pilot bails out and the ship indicator turns blue. At this point stop shooting...it's your ship now . Command it using the 'C' key. Open your cargobays and capture the pilot (red blop) by flying into him. Sell him as a slave at a pirate base. 5. Not every pilot bails out. Sometimes when I play Xtension nobody bails out, sometimes they jump one after another. 6. Tip: wait for a pirate cargo ship to leave the base to go buy stuff. Halfway between the jumpgate and the pirate base, intercept him and forcr him to bail out (if he refuses, kill him). The pirate base will send another and another ... Pirate ships often have their AHEPT and shields intact when captured. 7. Another tip: when capturing ships from other races, do this in the pirate sectors. This way you will not loose your rating with that race. Do this outside the pirate sectors and you will soon become an enemy of that race. Re: Capturing ships in X-T... (Faze) Hmmm doesn't seem logical to me. The slave takes up cargo space and capturing is more work than killing. And eventually you have to take your slaves to the pirate base. Why should that be less rewarded than a simple kill ???? > The only thing I do different is to kill the pilot. > You get 1000cr for a kill, only 800cr for slave. > With the amount of kills Ive got it must have made me > a lot more cr. > Faze How to capture freighter with a weak ship Posted By: Vince Date: 17 Dec 2000, 21:17 For those of you who restart in V2, this from a V2 beta tester. Background of a start game: I traded in the Buster for a Discover and a freighter, equipped my Discover with 1MW shield, 2 gIREs, and the Trading Extension upgrade. I also upgrade my Discoverer engine to about 240 (I think 15-20 upgrades). I head to the Argon Trading station and buy one Satellite, then install it in the lighted shelf of the ship yard. I command my freighter to head to one of the Solar Power Plant then head to the Goner Temple. While heading to the Goner temple, I regularly check to find out when the Lifter lands on the Power Plant, and order it to buy ECs. The idea is to let the freighter do the trading while you concentrate on combat. Once at the Goner temple, I bought 40-50 Salvage insurance then head for Ore Belt. The meat of the strategy: The blind spot on the freighter. Since my shield and guns are weak, the only 2 ways I can capture ships are: 1. The pirate ship fly solo, and I get on its tail to enter a gate. In this case, since your ship is weak, the only target I would pick are Mandalays. However, once you attacked them, don't follow them thru the gate, or the entire convoy will attack you. Back to the first option: Solo ships. The only ships I would be interested in are pirate freighters and Orinocos that travel Solo. You can find out by pressing I (Information), and the ship's destination is listed. If it is not listed, the ship belongs to a convoy. For Orinocos, this is easy game, just shoot. You have to watch your last shot. For Orinocos, you may want to wait so that the shield has recharged twice before firing, or you would risk destroying the ship. It is my experience that almost 99% of the pirates will eject, some sooner, some would require a lot of patience from your part. For freighters, as the title of this post suggest, there is a blind spot from which the pirate would not move or fire back. Place your ship within 50km of the freighter, and on its side, your ship being perpendicular to the freighter. Here is how I do it: Approach the freighter from the back and when I am within 200 km, I save the game (using my Salvage Insurance). Start shooting while maintaining a slow approach (distance decreasing but not too fast). The pirate would turn in order to have its gun pointed at you. You may want to roll your ship so that your ship would stay in the same plane as the pirate ship. I point my ship towards the front of the pirate ship (therefore, making an acute angle with it) and when I am within 50km, I hit the back space to stop my ship, while turning towards the middle of the pirate ship. The pirate ship would then comes to a complete stop. I save the game right here. (2nd save). Keep shooting until the pirate shield is down to about 12%, then do another save. You want to shoot until the shield drop to nothing, then let loose another fire when the shield recharge. Dont shoot if the pirate ship shows no shield on it, because you'd risk killing it. With patience, you will get your first capture in no time. One last note: Don't do this in a sector with a pirate base, because in V2.0, it will get mad at you. Follow the pirate ship to the next sector. 2. Communication/recognition distances Posted By: Crid Date: 17 Dec 2000, 22:19 I think I may be missing something about the X-Universe. Perhaps somebody can explain this to me... When I enter a new sector, all of the stations are listed as "Unknown object" until I fly around and ID them. Then my computer knows what the objects are from then on. Why, then, can I immediately see what all the ships in the sector are, and why can I open a comm channel with them no matter how far away they are, when I can't communicate with stations if they are too far away? (I would have expected it to be the other way around - stations would have more power and a bigger aerial to listen with). Anyone got any suggestions to make > some serious cash fast? Although it may work OK for XBTF, in X-Tension it is not a good idea to purchase a SPP. You will need to get Crystals at 860cr (difficult to find at that price) and sell cells at 15cr each to make a profit!. My suggestion is to get a cattle ranch or something similar to start with. They are good money earners. Mad-Mat Re: Need Hard Cash Fast! Posted By: Paul Knibbs Date: 7 Dec 2000, 08:09 In Response To: Need Hard Cash Fast! (Dr Slaney) Revert to a saved game prior to when you bought the SPP, for a start--SPPs do not make good profit (although this is supposed to be tweaked in the upcoming 2.0 patch). You're far better off building a factory where there's a guaranteed demand--Boron BoGas factories in Paranid territory will sell at maximum selling price, earning you around 40K Cr an hour. That's about the highest factory earning you get in X-T: if you want to earn large quantities of money quickly, you're better off either (a) trading or (b) capturing pirate ships then selling them at any shipyard. > I've been playing X-Tension for many hours now and I > have purchased a solar power plant. Posted By: Gastank Date: 7 Dec 2000, 09:40 In Response To: Re: Need Hard Cash Fast! (Paul Knibbs) A little sum to bear in mind, having worked out most of the profits and losses of factories:- SPP - 1 crystal produces 60 energy cells. 960cr for 1 crystal means that you have to sell the energy cells for 17 to make a profit. I've had SPP's in a few sectors where there are no SPP's set at 18 and they do make money. QTF in Kingdom end makes good money as do cattle ranches and crystal fabs. Re: Need Hard Cash Fast! You will never sell them. Build a Crystal Fab, set the price to 860cr each and sell energy cells at 15cr and you will sell them at a profit. (Dr Slaney) Profitable factories for me: Teladianum & Wheat Farm in Queen Space Scruffin Farm in The Wall Quantum Tube Fabs in Trinity Sanctum BoGas factory in any of the old paranid space. I know it is not as boring as owning a station, but hey! Just started - having probllems Posted By: Nige Date: 15 Nov 2000, 11:18 Hi I've just started playing X-Tension in the last few days and I'm having great difficulty getting any money together. In X-BtF, it was easy - solar power plants were dirt cheap but now they're 150,000! How can I make money quickly? Also, having read some of the posts on this page, what's this about capturing ships and selling them????? HELP!!!!!!! Capture the lead ship and the other fighter will surround it and then its easy pickings! Mad-Mat That's true in v1.5, but I think the pirate AI has been beefed up in the forthcoming 2.0--specifically, the "escort" ships will attack you once you open fire on the leader. > And to follow on > Packs of fighters tend to follow a lead ship. Much easier to make money that way and you should have enough left over to get a small fighter as escort. Ship capturing gets easier with practice but can be frustrating at first.
