B.N.J.'s Personal Thought's and Suggesions about ships
and there uses.
For Base Protection: All Ships
to be FULLY MAXED OUT!!!
For base protection, I would recommend
a mix of all three M classes(M3-M5), to be able to handle a variety of threats.
You may also notice this strategy on some N.P.C. factory's.
For M3 class I would recomend the Split
Mamba's and/or Paranid Prometheus, for your very important instalations, or
if you cannot readily afford the price of these ships, then I would recomend
the Boron EEL in comparison to the Argon Elite, due to the fact that it is
more manouvarable. I do not give my consent on ANY Teladi ships, since they
are rippofs(price wise), and not even the extra cargo hold would be that welcome
in this role! since you basically need only 4-6max cargo space(shields and
weapons), there is no actuall need to get missles as most of the times they
are not that effective). We are talking about base protection, and NOT USING
THE SHIPS OURSELFES! And neither is the Orinoco suited for this job, unless
you want to see it get wasted, as the other M3's get 2x25Mw shields. If you
want now some esthetics, you can add an Xenon L or two, the good thing is,
you don't have to buy it, and it takes 25Mw shields and AHEPT's not like it's
pirate counterpart, but then again, most poeple would just sell it and cash
in on it.
Now for the M4's I would recommend,
if you capture any Bayamons, to max them out, and use them for this task.
Now if you like buying or don't like shooting that much, I would recommend
the Boron Piranha, as the best all rounder in this category, taking in to
account price and performance, it outperforms all of its competitors!, and
is the second cheapest!(the Split Scorpion actually ain't any good, if you
look at it's speed(75), and the only thing it has going for it is it Max.
Steering(240)!, hardly worth it.). Now over here you can also use the Xenon
M if you have it, as it is the second best in this role after the Piranha,
as it has a very good Max Steering(210), and speed wise(Max 142)it matches
the Argon Buster(Max Steering 60, Max. Speed 143) and the Teladi Hawk(max
steering 80, and max speed 145). I personally use all Xenon ship models, just
for the sake of seeing them, besides that they are also efficient.
And Last but not least, your quick response
team! the M5's, the little unsung heroes, that scout the intruders and get
the first blood!. My Favorites for this role are the Split Wolf's, in pack's
of 5's minimum( hey, they do hunt in "packs" if you listen to the
audio description),they have 2x1Mw shileds instead of some others that have
only 1x1Mw(there only good for scouting), are very cheap, so you can replenish
them without to much harm, to your wallet! and you don't have to waste to
much on speed upgrades, as the pirates fastest, is only 260(and Xenon N, 371),
so the rest is overkill. Alternatevly you can also get the slightly more expensive
Argon Discoverer( I use both Split and Argon), and if you feal pity for the
Xenon N's you can use them also, as they are cheap, and you may feel embarrest
when you send them to the dealer!(it is the cheapest ship in all X-T up to
version V2.0), but still, there better than the Pirate Mandalay's in that
post, and if you think about it, your more likely to be attacked by pirates,
rather than Xenons!.
Ships I use for errands, and as
freighters:
Now for ferriyng goods, for your factorys, I have a few prefferences.
Not many though....
Normal Freighters: By saying "normal" I mean, going
out and buying them, please note that this is VERY expensive, as they
cost you an arm and a leg, to just get the shields for them!, and the second
most expensive is the cargo hold. My first prefference is the Argon Lifter,
solely due to its max speed!(143), it may have half the capacity of the Boron
Dolphin, but in the long run, it will catch up to its volume(142 compared
70, is slightly more than double). Now, if you don't have the money, or don't
like to upgrade your initiall cargo space, I would go for a Split Mule, as
it's speed ain't to chevvy, and it comes with a whopping 800cargo space!(but
has the smallest Max. cargo). If you intend to ferry large amounts of goods,
at a single time, and don't worry about being the slowest normal freighter,
then get the Boron Orca, with a max. of 3000, but ONLY if you actually need
that space. Later in the game, when you get your T.L. then you can use it
to ferry goods from it to various stations, but then again, you would not
be that much money concious :-) .
Pirate Freighters: Use these with care!, if you are running
low on income, then sure! use them, but they ain't really worth having, unless
you catch them intact with there shields and/or weapons intact. I do maintain
a small fleet of them, but they are relics, from the start of the game when
my cash flow was still having problems, and I liked collecting any ship I
got to capture. Do not fall the trap that they are "o.k." due to
that they have wepaons! they are practically useless, in a real combat, and
they have sacrificed a shield and cargo for the ability to have weapons!(lasers/missles).
The only ones I would recomend would be the "Pirate Freighter" that
you can buy, for it's agility, and GHEPT(if it gets to defend itself, with
a pirate playing "Chiken" aka head on), then the Pirates Ganymede
and Mule, due to that they have a better cargo capacity. On the other hand,
an Orinoco would be better, but would be best suited to be used in safe trading
lanes, as it would not be able to hold much of a fight, but at least it should
hold much longer than a pirate freighter due to its speed and manouvabilty
compared to the pirate freighters, but most would just sell them and make
a profit out of them, but they can be used a last resort, to protect your
facility, since the pirate freiters, would be too scared to step outside;-)
,and you can say that you OWN one!
Freighter Errands: By this I mean when your ships have to travel
thru pirate territorys, or small amounts and quick deliveries. For these cases
I use the Xenon L(due to shields and fire power), since it is a better choice
than any pirate freighter, the Pirate Bayamon, as a balance for speed, capacity,
and when it is done, it can revert back to normal base defence, and lastly,
for the "quick fixes", when you have to travel far, and you don't
need a big capacity, the Pirate Mandalay, as it has 90 Cargo space, minus
4 for the lasers and shields. It is the fastest for these things.
You may have noticed, that I have not included the Goner ship,
even though it is a good small trader and medium fast ship, I DO NOT ATTACK
THE GONERS, but if there ships were for sale, you can bet your money, that
I would have had a fleet of them! as they have the best speed/capacity for
this job, and especially when you have filled your factory up, you do not
actually need the cargo space of the bigger normal feighters, and it is faster
than nearly all the pirate ships(excluding the Mandalay 216 compared to the
260 of the Mandalay) and it can carry 2x25Mw shields, so it should be able
to fend for itself.(and if you put drones in it, you wont have to worry about
those pesky things....).
So there you have it. My Personal Thought's and Suggestions/Recomendations,
for how you can start out about your factorys.
I know some poeple won't agree with me 100% but, every one
IS and should be different, use the above as guidelines, or adhere to them,
but I do hope it does help for poeple still starting out, or that may want
to change some tactics.
Now for you Teladi "lovers" i'm sure you exist somewhere
out there, the only ship, I might suggest is, if you don't mind throwing you
money away, is the M4 Teladi Hawk,
Please note: All the above figures are rounded to the nearest
decimal. e.g. 143.86 would be 144, and 143.45 would be 143.
