Intro-
As your new official
‘QLD Netrider Ride Reporter’ this is my first effort at reviewing
one of our group rides. I hope everyone enjoys it- and if anyone has
any feedback, suggestions or anything they would like added to
future reports please feel free to PM me.
Cheers
Black Magic
Route-
Kilcoy via Mt Nebo, Mt
Glorious, Somerset Dam, Woodford, Mt Mee and finishing at
Dayboro.
Report-
What a fantastic day
was had by all!
Beautiful weather,
great route, fabulous friends, minimal police presence and best of
all no incidents to report from our group.
1st
Leg- The Gap to Mt Glorious-
Our glorious day began
at Brisbane
Forest Park entrance.
I was concerned that
it was an ominous sign, when while we were waiting at the meeting
point, we heard the terrible sound of screeching brakes and
machinery sliding down the bitumen somewhere just ahead up the
mountain.
A few of our group
headed up to investigate and assisted the poor victim of a slide off
the mountain- no-one from our group, and he was fairly unscathed
apart from the damage to his scoot. Hmmm…another accident…… here’s
hoping rubber-side down for everyone
today……
A lovely stretch of
road on the way up to Mt Nebo. Lots of gorgeous twisties all of the
way up and no police to be seen. At the peak of the mountain we
stopped at the Maiala Teahouse for a short break. The street was
lined both sides by dozens and dozens of bikes- it seemed every
Brisbane biker was out enjoying their Sunday blat.
What an impressive sight to see so many riders
out!
2nd
Leg- Mt Glorious to Kilcoy-
This leg of the run
had it all……
A compilation of
twisties, sweepers and long straights- something for
everyone!
The scenery around
Somerset Dam is to die for,
and I almost stopped for a photo opportunity except that I was
having so much fun that the ride won out!
There were stretches
of road in this leg that seemed to go on forever- absolutely
delightful country.
In one of the bends
our fantastic ‘Official QLD Netrider Photographer’ awaited snapping
her unsuspecting victims. (If only I had known I would have leaned a
little further into that particular corner!) Many thanks to her for
coming along to catch us in action.
We all arrived safely
for a welcome lunch at the Exchange Hotel in Kilcoy. The meals were
huge and it was great to just sit with everyone and chill out for a
while. The weather was exceptionally warm for an autumn day, so we
quenched our thirsts and filled our tummies before heading on for
the final leg of our trip.
3rd
Leg- Kilcoy to Mt Mee-
Full tummies ensured a
leisurely blat for the return leg home.
We travelled back
along the D’Aguilar
Highway to the turn-off at
Villenvue. An interesting stretch of narrow, comparatively straight
road through Woodford to Mt Mee.
Mt Mee woke us up from
our post-lunch riding fiesta, as we headed up from the northern side
of the mountain into all of those beautiful twisties
again.
Stopping at the Mt Mee
carpark/ lookout is always a highlight as the view of the north
coast and mountains is exceptional.
4th
Leg- Mt Mee to Dayboro-
Everyone tired, safe
and content we headed back down the southern side of Mt Mee through
the spine-tingling bends and met up at the Dayboro pool carpark with
a great post-ride after-glow. Here we rested, chatted about our ride
and all headed home our separate ways.
No Netriders down and
everybody had a fantastic time.
Lots of great photos
to see and, as usual we all reported in safe and happy on the
forum.
Thanks everybody for a
damn fine day! Can’t wait until next
time! |
