It would appear that the many of the Canadian McMorines are descended from Robert McMorine, minister in Dumfrieshire, Scotland whose son Robert and his wife Catherine Burnett emigrated to Quebec in 1842. There are other McMorines who do not appear to be connected with this family.

From a publication of the Richmond Historical Society from Richmond, Quebec, in 1968, mention is made of two McMorine's that came to Canada. The first was John McMORINE Senior who was born in 1822 and came to Canada in 1842. His uncle, the Reverend John McMORINE taught school in Quebec City and then was the first minister of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Upper Melbourne but there is no date for his arrival. Inscription on plaque "AULD KIRK" 1836 Location: County Rd. 44, about 1 mile west of Almonte. Ontario:
                    This stone church, an attractive example of an early form of Gothic Revival architecture, was
                    constructed in 1835-36 on land obtained from John Mitchell, one of Ramsay Township's earliest
                    settlers. Built by the local congregation of the Established Church of Scotland it was also attended by
                    Presbyterians from adjoining townships. The early settlers of Ramsay were visited by ministers from
                    Drummond and Beckwith. In 1834 the first resident minister, the Rev. John Fairbairn, was inducted. In
                    January 1864, during the ministry of the Rev. John McMorine (1847-1867), a new church was opened
                    in nearby Almonte. Although little used since then, the "Auld Kirk" stands as a memorial to the

Some of the American McMorines are a branch of another Scottish family that settled in Lancashire and Cheshire in England and they only arrived in the USA during the 20th century. Other McMorine families in the USA travelled there from Canada.

William James McMorrine and his wife Elizabeth and three sons emigrated to California.  They departed England Nov 30, 1929 and arrived in New York Dec 11 1929.  After 3 days they left  New York for Boston then through the Panama Canal and they arrived in San Francisco Dec 30, 1929.  The family settled in Oakland, CA.  Robert James McMorrine lived there until 1967 when he moved to Alaska, then back to California living in Sacramento for 3 years then  to Loomis, CA in 1980 until his death.
