This is the paradoxical path to divine Wisdom that St Paul recommends to Christians.
In her book, 'The Fool', Enid Welsford provides a history of folly, and summarises, that there are 4 kinds of fool.
The first fool is the one who gets slapped. (using St Chrysostom's definition)
The second fool is the one who gets slapped, but is none the worse for it.
The third fool is the one who adroitly changes place with the slapper.
The fourth fool is the one who is 'the great untrusser of slaveries'.
The concept of the first three fools is developed by Os Guiness in the conclusion of his book 'The Gravedigger file'.
