WETLANDS OF THE TOP END OF THE NT

A professional development resource for teachers and tourism operators

Bob Whiteford and Michael Michie

Wetlands of the Top End of the NT examines the wetland habitats that are a major part of the Top End. Written with teachers and tourist guides in mind, the text is simple and illustrated with simple line drawings by Bob Whiteford. Photographs are also used and there is access to other sources of information, including the World Wide Web.

Using a CD-ROM, links between various parts of the text and outside sources have been exploited. Major areas explored through the CD include

  • Introduction to wetlands
  • Wetlands habitats
  • Wildlife and plants
  • Aboriginal heritage
  • Mangroves
  • Conservation and management
  • Where to visit

A list of references is given which contains active links to relevant websites, so if the user is also connected to the Internet they can access these sites directly from the CD.

Both teachers and tourist guides will find the information on wetlands valuable and easily understood. Some wetlands activities have been devised to enhance understanding of each area.

The CD-ROM will operate on recent PCs and Macintosh computers with Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator installed as web browsers.
