- Traditionally midwives have supported women and their families
during the childbearing years. As in the past, independent midwives today
recognize birth as a healthy natural process not a medical event.
- During pregnancy, women and their families develop a friendly,
supporting relationship with their midwife. On the day the baby arrives,
the midwife remains with the woman throughout labour. After the birth the
midwife will visit regularly giving care and advice in the postnatal period.
- Independently Practising Midwives are specialists in providing
total care during a normal pregnancy and birth. They also consult with other
Health Care professionals when appropriate.
- Independent midwives provide advice and support with:
- Homebirth
- Birth Centre births
- Labour Ward births
- Water births
- Early discharge care
- Pre-conceptual Counseling
- Preparation for VBAC (vaginal birth after a caesarean)
- Sibling preparation
- Breast feeding advice
- Six week post natal consultation
- The aim of my care is to prepare women mentally, physically
and spiritually for labour, birth and parenthood. This is achieved by discussion,
education, relaxation, visualisation, positive affirmations and physical
examinations of both mother and baby.
- The emphasis of my practice is to tailor-make pregnancy care plans which
suit individual women.
Kind Regards,
Jan Robinson
