A little bit about us.
Gerard and I (Sue) were both in the Royal Australian Navy when we met in 1973, we were both stationed in Melbourne at the same Naval Depot. We married in 1974. We have 3 children, Christopher, Sharon and Anthony, and 4 grand children, David, Sara, Annelise and Jordon. Sharon is the only one who became interested in showing dogs. Her husband, Robert also shows dogs. They have Lhasa Apso's.
Gerard's involvement with dogs started as a child as his mother bred and showed Cocker Spaniels for a while. When old enough he joined the Royal Australian Navy and was a member for 29 years.After we were married and living in the Northern Territory he wanted to get back into showing so we aquired a German Shepherd dog (Shilbeck Black Beauty). After moving back to Victoria, Gerard was posted to sea and I found it difficult to handle the shepherds in the ring so we decided to look for something a bit smaller and easier to handle. Our decission came down to 3 breeds, a Shetland Sheepdog, a Japanese Spitz or a Keeshond. We finally decided on a Keeshond and an order for a puppy was placed with Mabs and Ron Cleverly of Alkmaar Kennels and then the wait began. Six months later Kitt, (Aust Ch Alkmaar Ivan) was born on the 13th October 1983 and this is where our involvement with The Beautiful Keeshond Began.
Our kennel prefix was chosen after I had read Gwendolen Wingfield Digby's book "My Life with Keeshonden". In her book Gwendolen wrote that she holidayed in the Hebrides in the north of Scotland and visited an inlet called Miavig, so I decided to apply to the kennel control for our frefix and our joy when we were given "Miavig".
We later aquired a bitch (Aust Ch Theldaroy Wild Wild Ways) from the second litter to be born in Australia, (born 24th December 2001) Queensland. In 2003 we had our first litter of Lappies.
We are a small kennel having only bred 7 champions under our Prefix "Miavig", 6 of which we owned. Over the years we also owned another 4 Keeshonds and 2 Lappies that we titled to Australian Champions. We also titled another Keeshond in his breeders name. Before the Lappies came along I also had a love for Japanese Spitz and we owned and titled 2.
