September 2006: Profile on myspace, have a look, post comments, join a blog, watch video clips, meet friends, and more! Preparations are underway for forthcoming Europe tour, full details will be listed on the tours page, and myspace. The Grafton artsfest runs October 7-12, last chance to grab a spot, if you fancy a week of iiving & breathing guitars in a friendly social atmosphere.

July 2006: Hat Trick - the band Michael played with during the 80s, has released a new CD Hat Trick - a retrospective. The CD was launched in Sydney at the Harp Hotel (Tempe) on June 18. New Hat Trick web-site: http://hattrickmusic.com.au/

Celebration of Guitar concert #2 announced for July 2, Souths RLFC, West End. Guests for this show: Peter Cupples, Craig Claxton, Cameron Ford, Sam Shepherd, Alesa Lajana, & legendary US session king Louie Shelton 

 

Michael will be presenting two week-long guitar courses, Maryborough (Qld) late June, and again in Grafton (NSW) in October. Grafton artsfest runs October 7-12

May 2006: Michael is off to Europe again this month to play again at the Sarzana international guitar meeting (Italy) followed by 2 week tour, then Germany. (see tours)

 

April 2006: is the Brisbane Record Fair and Brisbane Guitar Fair (Buy and sell guitars, gear and music). This will be followed by a concert: Michael Fix and special guest

Bron Ault-Connell who is hot off the Richard Thomson tour, and first female to be named Young guitarist of the year (2004) info 3846 7749

 

January 2006: Happy New Year! January is Tamworth Music Festival time. Michael has a busy schedule.

Something's Cooking makes the top 5 in the Victorian CM awards.

December 2005: Michael's tune Something's Cooking makes the top 5 in the CMAA   

Golden Guitar awards, best instrumental category, also the TIARA awards. The winners will be announced in Tamworth on January 28. Hat Trick reunion Christmas concert December 4, details here!

December 2004: It's been an eventful couple of months, with Michael performing 

in Italy, then home to play the Majors Creek Festival, then down to Launceston to

debut some new tunes with the St Cecilia Chamber Orchestra. Talk about variety!

 

October 2004: Michael is packing his bags once again, getting ready to perform

concerts & workshops in Italy. Guest on this tour will be junior guitar wiz 

Kieran Murphy. Italy dates listed here. Michael is also looking forward to return visit

to the Music at the Creek festival (Majors Creek, near Canberra).

 

September 2004: The Grafton Artsfest takes place between the 25th & 30th 

September Michael hosts a week long intensive guitar course. Guaranteed fun! 

Michael will be in Victoria between October 6 & 10, presenting concerts & 

workshops. Details here Then it's on to the Lord Howe Island music festival, Michaels'

third appearance at that week long event.

 

June 2004: Back from Europe. "The workshops & concerts were wonderful, the first 3 

Maton MF customs were sold in the first 3 days, orders for more taken, Italians are 

just crazy about guitar music! Dizzy Fingers festival with Tommy Emmanuel in Germany 

was a blast - we were dubbed 'those 2 crazy kangaroos'. Return visit planned"

May 2004: Michael will be spending most of the month in Italy, playing concerts, and   

demonstrating Maton guitars in music stores. The tour ends with a series of concerts

in Germany, as part of the Dizzy Fingers festival. Full details click here.

 

April 2004: Australian guitar manufacturer Maton have released a new Michael Fix Custom 

acoustic guitar. The guitar is based on the famous EBG808, and features Spruce top, 

Maple back & sides, ebony fingerboard and bridge, snowflake markers, 

rounded cutaway, and the AP-mic pickup system.

 

March 2004: Heart Has Reasons CD re-released. This album was first released by
 ABC  Music in 1996 (and has been out-of-print for several years), & has now been
 re-mastered and re-issued with new artwork in time For Michaels' tour through Italy
 and Germany in May. Europe details here soon. Order here

 

ABC radio Gold Coast & Sunshine Coast listeners were treated to a 30m chat and 

performance by Michael on March 8. Michael previewed some new arrangements 

including Brahms Hungarian Dance #5.

 

February 2004: Web of Dreams wins the QRA (Queensland Recording Association) 

Sunnie award for "Instrumental album of the year" This is Michaels second Sunnie award.

December 2003: 2004Golden Guitar finalists , TIARA award finalists, Vic CM awards announced. Michael makes the final 5 in the instrumental category for Two Left Feet (from Web of Dreams). 

 

November 2003: Featured in Australian Guitar Magazine. Nice article by music writer Greg Bush, and an 8/10 CD review. Woodford Folk Festival dates available - see Tours. ABC Radio listeners - listen out for interviews and tracks from the new CD. Michael featured on the Brisbane Extra program, Ch 9, Friday Nov 21st.

August 2003: Michael Fix Web of Dreams Released

 
This is a “scenic” album. It’s emotional landscapes, soundtracks to dreams, memories, thoughts and feelings. I really like the idea that you can create scenes with music because that’s how I create my music, as soundtracks to scenes in my mind. ORDER HERE

July 2003: New CD on it's way. Michael has been hard at work in the studio recording tracks for a new CD, scheduled for mid-August release. Keep an eye on this page for more news.

February 2003: Victorian CM Award. Michael Fix received the award for "National Instrumental of the Year" (for Mulga Dan) at the annual Victorian CM awards, held at Whittlesea, Feb 7. Michael dedicated the award to the late Barry Thornton.

January 2003: Golden Guitar number 3! Michael Fix has won his third Golden Guitar for 'Best Instrumental' Mulga Dan, at the 31st CMAA awards In his acceptance speech, Michael dedicated the award to the late Barry Thornton, and introduced the audience to Michael Muchow and Benji Pocock, two "young gun" Brisbane guitarists who contributed to Mulga Dan.

Michael writes for Australian Guitar Magazine Michael's column "Acoustic Power" is now a regular feature of Australia's only specialist guitar magazine. The column explores ideas, techniques and guitar styles relevant to players of all levels of expertise.

   

December awards news. Big news! Mulga Dan from the CD Michael Fix and friends: Remembering Barry Thornton, has made it to the final 5 in the 2003 CMAA awards. Winners announced Jan 25, Tamworth. This is the 9th time Michael has been a finalist. Also a finalist in the Victorian Country Music awards, winners announced Feb 7.

Out of the studio & back on the road. September, October and November look like being busy performance months, with a number of events and guitar clinics confirmed. See Tour dates

September 2002, New CD release. September 22 is the release date for a new 6 track CD Michael Fix and friends: Remembering Barry Thornton. Barry Thornton was a legendary Aussie guitarist, a pioneer of the Bush Ballad guitar style, who passed July 28. Proceeds from the sale of this CD go to his widow Pauline. Orders (including pre-sales) through The Country Music Store. There will be an all-day benefit concert at Pioneer Village, north of Brisbane, Sep 22.

Appearance confirmed at Blue Mountains Music Festival. This festival takes place in Katoomba, March 15, 16 and 17. A must for guitar fans; Michael will be performing with Jeff Lang, plus internationals Dan Crary and Bepe Gambetta. More info at http://www.bmff.org.au/

Michael wins 2002 T.I.A.R.A. The Tamworth Independent artist recognition award is presented during the annual Tamworth CM festival, and, as its name suggests, recognises recorded works of independent artists. Michael received his trophy for Dill Pickle Rag from the Transfixed CD.

December 2001, finalists announced. Good news this week with final 5 nominations for "best Instrumental" in the 2002 CMAA awards (Golden Guitars), 2002 TIARAS (Independent artist awards) & 2002 Victorian Country Music Awards

Woodford Folk Festival dates Michael will be appearing at this years festival (hour north of Brisbane) Sat 29th 10am concert, Sun 30th 11am concert, Mon 31st 4pm guitar workshop, 8pm concert

September 2001 two awards in one week! Michael was awarded a Queensland Recording Association "Sunnie" award for 'Best Instrumental Album' (Transfixed). Two days later Michael was named 'Instrumentalist of the Year' by the the S.E Queensland Club association.

June 30, 2001 The Chief passes away. The world mourns the loss of Chet Atkins, possibly the most influential guitarist of the last century. Chet was without a doubt the master of tone, touch and timing. He will be dearly missed. RIP. MisterGuitar.com - The Official website of Chet Atkins c.g.p.

May 2001 new album release "Sunday Morning". This one slipped out very quietly! Sunday Morning is CD that Michael was commissioned to produce for Sunday Morningrecord company MRA, and can therefore be classed as a 'concept album'. As the title suggests, it is a collection of cruisy, relaxing Sunday morning tunes. The CD comes complete with recipes for breakfast treats! Click here for more details. December 2000 Tamworth dates announced January 2001 will be the tenth year Michael has performed at Australia's premier country music festival event. See tour dates for details. Of special interest is a series of shows Michael is hosting at the Toyota Country Headquarters, Peel St (the old ANZ bank building). Called "Maton Masters", the daily spots will feature informal appearances by mystery guests.

November 2000 New Zealand guitar fans are in for a treat when Michael Fix, Jazz virtuoso Martin Taylor, acoustic fingerpicker Graham Wardrop, and Kiwi legend Gray Bartlett perform - two concerts only; Wellington, November 2, and Auckland November 3. This will be Michael's fourth trip to the land of the long white cloud.

October 2000 New Album released. "Transfixed" 

August 2000 Maton to release Michael Fix signature model guitar. Mid-August is the expected release date for a new series of Maton guitars honouring Michael Fix. The guitar is based on the popular 808 (or "Bluegrass") series of guitars, and will feature a cutaway, blond finish, block markers, AP 5 pickup system (with a mic option), and Razemark. July 2000 Michael Fix makes American debut. Michael describes his week spent at the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society (CAAS) convention as "guitar heaven - I had the time of my life, I feel so fired up and keen to play more. I'm already planning to go next year!" Michael's performances also attracted interest from organisers of European guitar festivals. See some pics of Michael at this event at CAAS 2000

June 2000 Michael Fix invited to Nashville to perform at the annual Chet Atkins Appreciation Society (CAAS) convention. The convention takes place between the 12th and 15th of July at the Music City Sheraton Hotel, Nashville. The convention is known for its sheer number of talented fingerstyle guitarists in attendance. CAAS members from all over the world bring their guitars and trade licks in the lobby, meeting rooms and hotel rooms all week.

May 2000 Guitarist Michael Fix & Lyricist Jeff Burton struck gold with their first songwriting collaboration. Their song Memories & Dreams has been selected for inclusion on Slim Dusty's one hundredth album, titled Looking Forward, Looking Back. This instant success has inspired and motivated both writers to write together on a regular basis -so look out for other Fix/Burton compositions!

May 2000 Michael Fix will team up with ARIA producer of the year James Roche (Bachelor Girl songwriter/producer) to co-produce the new album for Brisbane singer/songwriter Michael O'Rourke.

Walkin' the walkFebruary, 2000 New single "Walkin' the Walk" wins Golden Guitar in 2000 CMAA awards for "Best Instrumental". This makes 2 wins in as many years!
