I read a lot of science fiction, and a lot of magazines, but am
slowing up as my eyes get older!
No doubt that interested everyone!
I read for Vision Australia, formerly The Association for the Blind.
This is their headquarters, just across the road from the Kooyong
tennis courts.
They host a radio station, 3RPH print radio, on 1179AM. Most of the
people involved are volunteers - gathering items to read, reading,
operating the panels, and presenting the programs.
Each reader usually does two shifts a month, at various times of 4 to
5 hours (not continual reading!) from 6.30 am to 10.30pm. I usually
read on the first and third Wednesday nights of the month.
If you fancy yourself as a reader, and have spare time (and live
locally!), give them a ring. They also have a demand for volunteers
to visit blind people, drive them around, and so on. So if you can
drag yourself away from this artificial environment occasionally,
volunteer!
