We had been intending to approach Neuschwanstein (which I hope I am spelling correctly!) by going up into the mountains by cable and walking down. It had rained all night, however, so we walked along a creek. Our first view of Neuschwanstein:
Three of us walked on, while the others walked over to the cable cars. But the operator told them it was too dangerous to walk down the ridge, so they followed us.
We were amazed by the crowds. It was a miserable day, but there were queues way out into the wet to buy tickets for the castles:
The pyramidal building at the back had quite a complex queue already inside. Luckily this was not our day to tour the castle, so we continued our walk on past the castle and the lake, to Füssen.
Our only view of Höhenschwangau, as we dripped past.
