1997 Victoria Cup Grand Final
Doncaster could not beat the Melbourne Redbacks in 1997 Grand Final. The Redbacks pulled away to a 6 goal lead at half time, mainly due to Doncaster not realizing their goal scoring opportunities and some questionable umpire decisions.
A fightback early in the second half - Doncaster managed to get within 3 goals of Melbourne - was quickly suppressed when Melbourne scored 3 quick goals. However, Doncaster did not give up and fought until the very end. To no avail, as Melbourne defeated Doncaster with 20 : 15 goals.
General
Doncaster qualified for Grand Final clash against the Melbourne Redbacks, winning a nerv-wrecking semi-final against White City with 23 : 18, after having been down at half time 7 : 12.
