GROUND WATER QUALITY MONITOR
DESCRIPTION – FEATURES & BENEFITS
The DELTA-5 is a modern instrument capable of measuring pH, conductivity,
temperature and ORP (Redox). It normally comes with 100 metres of cable wound
onto a large drum. It is easily carried by one person and the miniature probe
can be lowered 100 metres down a bore hole.
The probe is only 12 mm in diameter and about 170 mm long. Being this small
allows the probe to be placed in smaller than the standard 50 mm hole thus
reducing the costs of drilling. It can be accommodated in holes as small
as 17 mm in diameter. If it is placed in the standard 50 mm hole then it
will cause less interference to stratification of water layers then using
the standard size probe. It is battery operated and normally a full days
work can be carried out without the need for recharging.
The display and keypad is mounted on the side of the drum and it can be swiveled
to provide optimum viewing. It can also be fully protected while transporting
by placing the display face towards the drum.
The main electronics and battery are placed in a box inside the drum. Charging
is carried out by connecting a power source to the external connector. This
same external connector can be used for optional data storage.
The drum has a large handle and together with the large diameter it is easy
to wind the cable onto the drum.
The meter can also be supplied for use in the laboratory. The drum is replaced
by a single display and electronics box along with the same probe but the
cable length is limited to 3 metres.
APPLICATIONS
- Ground water monitoring
- Salinity checks
- Check leaks from tailings dams
- monitor lake & river quality
OPERATION
The unit is switched on (and off) by pressing and holding the ON/OFF button.
The display will initially show whether the probe is in water or air. Thus
the operator can lower the probe down a bore hole and know when water is
reached. The DELTA-5 beeps every time it changes from air to water to air
interface. The meter will continue in this mode until SELECT is pressed.
This will put the meter into the temperature mode. It will continuously display
the temperature at the probe. If SELECT is pressed again then the meter will
switch to the pH mode. If CAL is pressed then the temperature calibration
mode will be entered. In the same way SELECT will select Conductivity
and ORP and finally back to the temperature. Calibration can be selected
from within each function. Within the Conductivity function the operator
may select range 1 (0-200 mS) or range 2 (0-20 mS). The time
and date also may be entered at any time. This will be stored and be kept
even when the battery is low or disconnected. Whenever a reading is stored
(optional) the time and date will also be stored.
