Hunter Institute of Technology - Marine Engineering Section courses
The Marine Engineering Section provides the high demand Advanced Diploma in Marine Engineering (Class 1), Diploma in Marine Engineering (Class 2) and Diploma in Marine Engineering Watchkeeping.
These courses meet STCW95 requirements for First Class Certificate, Second Class Certificate and Watchkeeping Certificate. Revalidation and upgrade courses are available to meet STCW95 requirements. In addition, the College has developed a range of customised short courses to suit the specific needs of the maritime industry.
We are based at the Hunter Institute of Technology's Newcastle Campus, just two hours drive from Sydney. The campus is right on bus and train routes and is close to all kinds of shops, eateries, beaches, bushland and the world-renowned Hunter Valley vineyards.
Staff are highly respected within the maritime industry and maintain close links with national and international shipping and maritime companies.
The Centre is internationally regarded by industry as a centre of excellence for the training of marine engineers.
The centre is the major TAFE complex within Australia to offer comprehensive practical training for marine engineers in the fields of shipboard electrical electronics and control systems. We are conveniently located close to marine repair and shipbuilding facilities including a floating dock of 15,000 tonne lifting capacity and the world renowned Port of Newcastle.
