  • Planned for and carried out the installation, customisation, testing, and implementation of IMS Version 6.1 and associated software into several IBM Asia-Pacific systems.

  • Assisted with the production of an IMS Redbook on IMS Shared Message Queues technology.

  • Implemented for evaluation IMS DataSharing technology in a Sysplex environment.

1994 - 1996 IMS Systems Programmer

Initially a six-month contract, this position was extended a further thirteen months until March 1996. In this position I was one of eight IMS Systems Programmer employed by the largest telecommunications company in Australia with an IT department running MVS, JES2, VTAM, TCP/IP, IMS, DB2 and CICS.

DUTIES

  • Planned for and carried out the installation, customisation, testing, and implementation of IMS Version 5.1 and associated software into 35 IMS systems.

  • Designed, prepared and presented several educational courses for in-house training of technical staff using Microsoft PowerPoint. Courses included an IMS Operations course for 82 operators in two cities and an EPILOG/IMS course for systems programmers.

  • Provided consulting expertise to a diverse range of clients including management, end users and other technical staff on technical issues related to IMS and other related software.

  • Performed prompt and accurate problem diagnosis including dump reading using various tools such as IPCS and IBMLINK.

  • Provided general systems programmer duties for IMS and related IBM and third party products.

  • Provided ongoing, 24 hour, 7-day technical support for IMS and other software via pager, mobile phone and remote dial-in communications.

I resigned from Telstra to undertake an 8-month overseas vacation.

1991 - 1994 IMS Systems Programmer

  • Contributed to the implementation of a dual site, disaster recovery plan.

  • Automated numerous operational functions of IMS and DB2 using NETVIEW and REXX and provided consulting expertise to operational analysts and operators regarding automation of IMS and other software.

  • Trained and supervised new IMS Systems Programmers and provided guidance and assistance where required.

  • Conducted and contributed to the installation, upgrading and testing of IMS and other software using SMP and non-SMP methods.

  • Performed ongoing monitoring and analysis of online and batch activity and tuned multiple IMS systems and application to ensure optimum usage of software and hardware.

I resigned from National Mutual Computer Services to undertake a contract position as an IMS Systems Programmer at Telstra.
