The Power of His Name

By Phillip Luff

SCRIPTURE: John 14:14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

Is there power in the name of Jesus?

Yes!

Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

Luke 9:1 Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.

Luke 10:17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

Luke 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

The miracles that Jesus performed we will be able to do them also. Even greater! Believe in the Lord and all that you ask of Him, He will do. Feed 10,000, healing the sick ? Have FAITH

Acts 3:6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

Acts 16:18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.

Here He has confirmed that permission to use His name.

John 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

Here Jesus has given us His authority to use His name to do good works.

John 14:14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

The verses above raise questions on what we can ask for. Jesus never turned a poor man into a rich man financially. The poor man went away richer in God. Jesus changed everyone that came in contact with Him. When the tax had to be paid, a fish had the money in it's mouth. Can we only us His name to do good for others. How about ourselves? Today we see men of God obtaining wealth by doing God's work. Did they ask for this wealth or did it come by doing God's work ? It doesn't matter what we think. God is the one who will judge.

In today’s life we can be overtaken by our own desires a new car, a new house, money for non essentials and many other things.This is not what Jesus taught. God already knows what we need before we ask for it. I believe He supplies what we need and not what we want. Need and want are two very different words. We are servants of God and are meant to serve others as Jesus did. So the sooner we can forget what I want and start to serve God. The sooner He will provide for our needs.

John 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

Ephesians 5:20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
