Mount Coolum
![]() At the carpark the signs tells you to allow 2 hours return trip. Well anyone would have thought that I was mounting an expedition for a few days (have to buy a day pack)as I load up for the climb. Believe me it is a climb, but without the ropes. The track starts through a paperbark forest. As you move up along the track, you come to a fence which marks the old quarry. Here care must be taken as the edges are loose, hence the fence. Now the incline of the track starts to increase. Since starting the vegetation has changed. The paperbarks have started thinning out to be replaced with eucalypts and the grass trees. The track gets steeper as you move upwards. Care must be taken as the track consists of loose rocks. See track photos 3, 4, and 6.
![]() These are made from the hexagonal columns of the mount. Looking to the left and you can see an open cliff face of these columns. Now you work for your water. It's gets steeper. You leave the little bit of shade you had and move into the open heath. Looking at the photos gives you some idea about the track to the summit. In springtime I believe the wild flower are in bloom. I went in the beginning of winter and there were a few wild flower out. I am going again this time in spring to see the blooms and this time with the tripod and mosquito repelant.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() When you reach the summit the walk is worth the effort. You have 360 degrees of the Sunshine Coast to look at. Take water and some nibblies and enjoy the views. As I develop my Bushwalking page I hope to be able to bring more and more information about the areas I am walking. If I can be of any assistance for information please email me. |
