Attack Vector: Tactical

Attack Vector: Tactical is a hard science space combat game by Ad Astra Games.

I'm redesigning the AV:T thrust chart as a design exercise, because to me the original is hard to read with middle aged eyes and not as clear as it could be.

  1. Original design, but with the arrow direction reversed to match the direction of reading.
  2. First concept for a new design. I rotated the chart so the segments read horizontally and the thrust levels vertically, which allows more thrust values. (Maximum thrust of 12 here, but can easily go to 16.) Instead of color coding velocity, just count the number of arrow head symbols in each segment. For off-axis thrust, the minor axis arrows point orthogonal to the major axis.
  3. Second design. Vertical design, this time with color coding for velocity in the style of the original AV:T design. I added a color map at the top since this chart has thrust values up to 16 and the color coding becomes harder to remember with four different shades.

These charts were created by a Python program using the Report Lab Open Source PDF library.

Do not use these to play AV:T! Something in the Python calculation code generates different segment displacement values than the original Ad Astra chart, and I can't figure out why. So for the moment, please consider these as design exercises only.
