Mission Statement
Mission Statement
To provide up to date, timely, interesting and useful information to Broomballers the world over.
And to provide the casual visitor with information on what the sport is about, and the contacts to pursue it if they so desire.
It's My Say
In February 1995 I got hooked up to the internet. Having used email for a couple of years prior to that, it was a natural extension. What I found was a distinct lack of any information whatsoever on broomball. So in May 1995, I setup a site dedicated to broomball. It's been a slow process in developing the site. But the response I have received has been overwhelming.
One frustration along the way has been the plagiarism. Whilst I don't object to utilisation of the information on the site, that is after all why I set it up. I do object however to utilisation of the information without permission (It may well have been granted if I was asked !!) and secondly the use of information that is passed off as someone elses. The information recorded on this site is wholly original, and any information provided that I have not authored is duly credited. If you see the information recorded elsewhere, then it has come from this site! I have no objection to the information being posted anywhere, but, either ask me or give credit where it's due. A lot of time and effort goes into the construction of this site, not to mention the $$$ cost of the net time (which I personally fund).
One club, has produced a brochure based solely on the information that I created here, with no acknowledgement whatsoever, in fact the information is taken word for word from my site - the club - A.C.T. Broomball Association. Permission to publish this information was not sought and certainly is not now granted, the information has been passed off as their own and I strongly object to the methods used. I have therefore removed all links to the A.C.T. Broomball Association until either I receive an apology, or an acceptable explanation is received. To compound matters, they have now further plagiarised information to their web site.
Postcript. I have now been contacted by the ACT Broomball Association and they have apologised for the use of content from here. Steps have or should be taken by now to remove and rewrite their site.
A number of sites have contacted me and have expressed interest in the use of various logo's and information. and where appropriate I have granted permission (in fact I have NEVER not granted permission to use information on this site). I would just like to be asked first.
Theres is only one aspect that I do not mind people plagiarising, that is Broomball links (which are easily found) and contact information for the various broomball sites and leagues, the more that contact the associations the sronger our sport will be.
Part of the net experience as a web site developer, is that everyone feeds of everyone else, and overall the experience for our visitors is enhanced as a result. The very act of feeding off one another means that some techniques and ideas are borrowed, such as writing styles, layouts, use of java and common sets of graphics (such as the bullets). There are free scripts, bullets, graphics and many other tools that can enhance the visitors experience to your website. So I encourage you to develop YOUR style, and let others develop theirs.
Much of the information displayed at this site has been very difficult to obtain, as the many of the broomball leagues seem reluctant to release information on their Tournaments, Contacts or other aspects of their adminsitration. Not an attitude I can understand, as dissemination of the information is in everyones interest and helps build the sport at all levels. This does seem to be changing and it's a move I'm very happy with.
