I live but 15 minutes away from The Roxy. So I started to get ready to go at about 9:00am. I was excited, I couldn't wait to see The Smashing Pumpkins in concert once again. I called Ticket Master and couldn't get any tickets, how did I get in? Well, my Aunt Sheila knows a lot of people. She is a model, and (cough) KNOWS a lot of people. She knows the owner of The Roxy so she though we could walk in smiling with V.I.P passes. It didn't happen that way. The owner of The Roxy pretty much loaned out their Venue to the band, and their crew. The security was so tight, because they were working for the band, not The Roxy. At about 8:00pm we were at The Rainbow having dinner. Now I mentioned that Sheila (cough) KNOWS a lot of people, so the owner of The Rainbow came over and told her that The Smashing Pumpkins reserved table 16, and were going to eat dinner there. They were a no show. In the end it was rumored that since there was to many people up front, they order a Pizza from the kitchen and had it delivered to their upstairs room at The Roxy. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention their tour bus was labeled "Cheap Trick", and when I pulled up a girl was jumping in front of it with a "We Love Billy Sign.

Meanwhile out front: Gwen Stefani from No Doubt, Billy Zane from Titanic, Stephen Dorf from Blade, And I think the bassist from Hole, were making their appearances I didn't see them though, other SP fans did. So during my aunts long boring dinner, I went outside and mingled with SP fans like myself. I felt like we were all family. I ran into Eric Agnew who used to have the webpage Luna, and a bunch of other people from the Alt Music Smashing Pumpkins Newsgroup! They were great! They all laughed at me when I said Eric was a net celebrity!!! But I didn't care!!!

Down over at rollcall they were pushing your ass in if you had valid tickets, they were seriously shoving people in the door. That part kind of sucked. I talked to the Kroq truck and two guys from Y107 that were handing out stickers wanted to take me home because they thought my pink hair was really cool. My aunts friend mentioned I had a boyfriend, and they left and I didn't see them again!

So Sheila's Billionaire friend ended up giving me a $600 ticket that he bought from a scalper, yes I kid you not... $600 dollars. Some other dork was out there scalping "The Last Ticket" for 1,300. I laughed at him. Then kicked his ass jacked his ticket and ran inside. Just kidding. I thought about it though. Once inside The Queens Of The Stone Age started playing. At the beginning of the first song he blew fire out of his mouth. I wasn't impressed. I saw 5 guys sleeping through their opening act, and everyone else was just talking. They were much much to loud, my ear felt like it was bleeding and i had to put in some earplugs. Despite how loud they were, they still put everyone to sleep. The lights went out and the crowd went wild anticipating the pumpkins. When the lights went back on we all felt stupid, because they were still setting up the stage. Finally the lights went out for 10 seconds and when the lights went on they didn't waste a moment to dive right into I Am One. Then they played Zero and the crowd went wild. Then they went on to sing a bunch of their new songs that made me look forward to their new album. They were all very pretty, and well written. Billy did some sound effects with his guitar that I never thought could be done live, but I never expected less from guitar geniuses Billy Corgan, and James Iha. I could definitely hear that Jimmy was back, I went to their show at the forum and the drums sounded nothing like it did that night at The Roxy. I looked to try and see him, but I couldn't see him from where I was standing. I stood in the back because it was deathly hot in there. Fans were fainting from the heat so they had to take a few out to cool the place off.

They let them back in later. I was about to faint myself, but there was no way I was leaving the pumpkins show. Even in the heat I jumped, screamed, and yelled to the lyrics. Well, the lyrics I knew! v James was wearing a sparkly black shirt and black pantsand cowboy boots (it looked like). . .Jimmy was wearing these short shorts (so it seemed). . . .Billy. . . .well let me tell you. ..the man looks good in a skirt!!! He wore I think it was a dark gray kind of jacket or coat over a black shirt (that I think had red buttons on it) with this dark gray kinda like school uniform skirt (went past his knees). ..and he had on tights and boots. . .He just looked really good :) D'arcy had on her cowboy hat. . .some black sleeveless shirt with red writing on it. . .and I don’t remember what pants she wore.

When they went to play Ava Adore, Billy changed the lyrics, to you will always be my whores and pointed to the audience. It felt good to be Billy's whore! And then he changed the lyrics to "we'll pull your crooked teeth, and you'll be perfect just like Billy" I figured it was pumpkin humor and laughed at Silly OLE Billy. Everytime they sang "WE MUST NEVER BE APART" the house lights would flash on and every one would scream or sing along. I remember D'arcy said "wait wait wait, James always refuses to dance with me and i want to know why!" and then she asked the crowd if we wanted to know why, and we yelled "YESSSSSS" and then she was like "JAMES THE PEOPLE WANT TO KNOW WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and everyone laughed then then James said something like he was taking swing dance lessons and he realized everything they were doing was all wrong and how the next album is gunna be all swing... I thought it was cute.

Some highlights: D'arcy introduced Jimmy as Animal from the Muppets. .

At the end of the concert I was so sweaty, it seriously felt like it was a million degrees in there. I was so hot that the guy next to me bought me a coke and he said "here, you need this you look like you are going to pass out" i thought it was really nice. That was pretty much the end of my experience, but here are a few things I found out after I left from people that went also. The people in the front got guitar picks, and picture autographs, which makes me very mad that I didn't go upfront. I stayed in the back because I pass out easily, and I was already over excited. I knew if it was THAT hot in the back in would be pass out time for me if I got upfront and was getting crushed. I kind of wish I went upfront and passed out. Jimmy came up front and signed some autographs, and was talking to fans. I am really mad I missed that, but I was sitting in my aunts friends Limmo listening to mindless chatter. The rich guy that got me in was talking about how it was the best concert ever, and he asked me if I knew the band was this good when I got there. Of course I replied "Definitely, that's my favorite band" I think I spotted James in The Rainbow afterwards but I'm not sure I felt delusional. And my aunt said she met the tour manager and he invited her to hang out with him and Billy at the house of blues but she denied. SHE DENIED. That was also upsetting. So I got handed a free poster, I bought a tee-shirt. My boyfriend raided the Kroq van and got me a bunch of treasures, and I went home and talked his ear off about the concert.

Things I left out that I noticed: Billy told the band, to keep playing if he passed out. The band was equally as hot as we were, Billy kept wiping off his head. His shaved head looked really convenient for that concert. If I was guy I'd shave my head too!! Save some money on shampoo! In the end the crowd was complaining that people were pushing right through them, well we were being pushed right through them not of our will, by security behind the people behind us! And to end my review I have to say that, I always feel at home at The Smashing Pumpkins concerts. I feel like its a time where all the real fans Unite as one, like we have a lot of things in common. Things in common that only other Pumpkins fans can identify too. I remember the rich guy I was with commented on how well behaved the crowd was for a big band like the Smashing Pumpkins, I replied OF COURSE WE ARE, we have respect. We're pumpkin heads!!! I hope they play at The Roxy again. Even if I don't get in, I know I'll meet friends outfront!!! And have just as much fun

Much Love, Catherine
