Wowsers! What a beautiful day the 12th was. I got to Bogart's at about 12:30 or so because I was afraid a line would be forming. To my surprise there was only 3-4 people, one of whom left a little later. The 3 folks were Nate, Adam, and Stacy-all very rawkin' pumpkinheads I might add. We were standing around and talking and sharing weird stories just trying to pass time. At about 2pm more people start showing up and this girl Brittany joins our "clique" I guess you could say. Things are really going great. It's about 5-6pm and a fairly descent line of people has formed down Vine Street. Then the most awesome thing happened. We saw the big silver tour bus drive down Vine St. Oddly enough only we(Stacy, Brittany, Nate, Adam, and I) knew it was the tour bus. Me, Brittany, and I start running down the street and head towards the back of Bogart's. Nate and another guy Joe soon followed while Adam and this really cool lady held our spots. We get to the back and the security guards tell us to go to the other side of the bus. When we do, another guard yelled at us not to come any further. The doors open and Billy stepped off the bus dressed in all black. He had a little smirk on his face. Then Jimmy got off the bus but he just looked down and quickly walked on. Following him was Yelena. She smiled at us. When she did I yelled "WE LOVE YOU" and she waved!! Woohoo! After Yelena got off they closed the doors which confused us because we didn't know where James and D'arcy were. After that we ran back up to the front of Bogart's and started yelling "They're here. We saw Billy. We saw Yelena!" Stupid us...James and D'arcy got off a couple of minutes later. :( At least we saw Billy, Jimmy, and Yelena. This girl came up to us and was like "Ohmygod, you saw Billy? Can I shake your hand?" What a sweetie... Then another awesome thing happened...a camera-man from the crew came around to the front and got me and Nate on tape talking about his tour pass. Nate was asking to buy it off of him, but we got on camera. Later he came around with a different camera and got us again. Nate forgot to show the camera his SP heart tattoo... :( Hmm, fast-forward to about 7:50. Ten minutes until the doors open. Guards behind the door are scared to death. They're yelling at the top of their lungs about no spikes, chains, laser pointers, or backpacks. They yell even more about how any and all crowd-surfers will be thrown out and how cameras will be confiscated (I had to shove mine behind my belt). Well at 8pm they open the door. Stacy who was first goes in...then Nate and Adam...then me... Nate and Adam offered to hold my spot while I went to buy shirts quickly. Not the best move. When I got back I was no longer against the metal rail. I was in second row but it was still a blessing for me. At promptly 9pm, the opening band Queens of the Stone Age come on. They were actually pretty good but everyone was too preoccupied with the thought of seeing the Pumpkins to really care about the Queens. During the Queens set no one really moved around or anything. I stood further up than I should have because the guy behind me was trying to bootleg the show. He was cool. He had an Urge Overkill shirt on... Well anyhow they played for about 30 minutes. Then at 10 the Pumpkins came out. Once they did I could feel myself being pushed from behind. The crowd started moving forward...and it was getting hotter. They started off with "I Am One" which immediatly got people body movin'. Then they played Zero, Pug, and La Dolly Vita followed by maybe 6-7 new songs. WIth all the pushing and moving going on lots of people had to be pulled out of the crowd. Eventually Brittany (in front row) was pulled out and I managed to snag her spot. Once I did I looked up and almost fainted because I realized I was in FRONT ROW DEAD CENTER. I had the most perfect view in the whole world. Anyhow, after the new songs the lights went out and SP went off stage. Then they came back on and were joking about what to play. Finally James went "Put a Muzzle on it..." and of course, Muzzle came on. After Muzzle, they did Soma. The lights went out again and the band left. Of course they returned and did 2 new songs, one of which I believe is called "If there's a God". The lights off routine happened again. When they came back they played "Today" and "GeekUSA" (which was their final song). Billy threw maybe 3-4 of his water bottles out to the crowd. The really tall guy behind me caught one and spilled the water out all over us...and completely drenched me which wouldnt have been so bad if I didn't have to wait outside for about an hour for my ride. And Nate managed to get a pick was really awesome. He even flashed his SP tattoo I think. Another awesome thing was when me and the guy behind me were yelling out D'arcy's name and she looked and waved. I waved back and she smiled!!!!! That made my night. D'arcy had a white cowboy hat and a blue shirt with dragon-type japanese looking script on it. Billy was wearing a pin-stripe suit and James had on a silky gray shirt and black pants. Jimmy had on a sleeveless shirt and shorts. His hair was cut short and had blonde in it. Yelena's hair was short and she had on a pretty dress. She also video-taped the whole show...I guess that's a perk of dating someone in a band...free bootlegs. :) This pumpkins show was the best concert I've ever been to-Pumpkinish or not. It was really great to see the band happy and well and together again. Monday April 12, 1999 was the best day of my life despite the cold and my parents yelling and new-found anger towards me. To anyone I may have met at the show...you guys rawk!
